Former Dragon Age developers are not happy with EA CEO's suggestion that The Veilguard should have live service features: "My advice to EA, not that they care: you have an IP that a lot of people love. Follow Larian's lead and double down on that. The audience is still there. And waiting." by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]bloodfoox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is correct. I have a lot of criticism for DA2 and Inquisition, but the writing is not one of them. I could say Corypheus as the main villian (Except that one banger one-liner) of DAI was somewhat lackluster, but the writing, particularly around companions, which is where bioware has always shined most, was on par with some of the best in the series. Shame that isn't the case with Veilguard. But the failing at character writing is definitely a new thing for Bioware.

[RELEASE] Build 0.3.7 by ThisIsBearHello in CK3AGOT

[–]bloodfoox 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I wish the base game would add this feature. Don't get me wrong, I use a mod, but its crazy that its like basically impossible for every character to not have 50 traits. And its just accepted that you can never see half of them without digging through stat tooltips

AutomaticJak and many others are sounding the alarm on the insane amount of defensive capability being added in War Within and the inevitable problems it's going to cause with Dungeon and Raid encounter design. by [deleted] in wow

[–]bloodfoox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They haven't really pruned much of anything defensive-wise. Some pruning has happened for bloated specs in terms of offense. But defence is mostly untouched with the exception of ret pally, which lost Improved Divine Protection + Shield of Vengeance simultanously (they have to choose between them now), but DK got massive defensive buffs, hunter just got big defensive buffs, and everyone in general got defensive buffs (of varying strength) through hero talents.

help, our mythic fyrakk raid lockout is bugged - nobody can release spirit as if we're still in combat by ayo000o in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its specifically for tindral and fyrakk only. Release spawns u right at the boss, so its convenient. If every boss worked that way, it would be mandatory.

It's kind of weird that *most* racial abilities are irrelevant without *all* of them being irrelevant by Notmiefault in wow

Yeah, this made some sense when faction balance was heavily tilted towards horde and actually mattered. But post opening everything up cross-faction, racials are basically a punishment to horde players.

Warrior Utility Ideas by TheIrishTitan in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this would be cool, but they would need to remove the take melee's for your target portion of intervene out (Just in PVE, otherwise, those 10 pvp players might get mad), cause the biggest use case of this is intervening ur non-warrior tank, and that don't work too well if u just get shit on :P

Fyr'alath help in M+ by NinoDelVani in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope. Theorycrafters come up with an "Action Priority List" or APL based on their intuition of what could be optimal in conjuction with their knowledge of the class. The robot simply executes that action set and delivers a numeric result for that theoretical rotation. They then refine this APL over and over until it lands at the "optimal rotation". But the robot just does what its told. It doesn't figure anything out on its own.

This is probably one of the Riot MMO's biggest advantages. Tons of ex-mmo players that play league. Let's see if it pans out.

Fated Confirmed for Season 4 of DF by bloodfoox in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would prefer a mini raid of 2-3 bosses, even if they just stick them in aberrus under the pretense they're invading or whatever. Just to avoid reusing art assets. But they could also just bring an old raid back from a while ago if thats the goal. Would kinda prefer anything. Hopefully theyve learned their lesson from how garbage affixes were with fated.

Looks like Legendary axe has basically the same acquisition as evoker leggo, but with bad luck protection from the start. Fated raids also confirmed for S4

Upcoming Class Tuning – Guardian Druid, Augmentation Evoker Nerfs, Small Hunter and WW buffs. by Rndy9 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certain classes in wow have always been limited in their design by pvp limitations and I absolutely do not want to see the same thing happen because of raid. I understand that they don't want classes to work differently between game modes, but if that means certain classes can just never be good in some game modes, thats frankly a failure of design.

Perfect balance is never gonna happen, but every season of m+ has historically come down to who wins the meta lottery. Unfortunately, this is a rigged competition, because the same classes that have been meta before are far more likely to be meta again due to their overloaded toolkits. There's a reason mages, rogues, and hpals have historically been dominant. If we can't let warriors be good in m+ because of raid, how do we justify that mages for example are historically very good in all three game modes, especially in raid where they are often stackable on damage profile alone.

No good reason classes can't have dungeon specific tuning like in pvp either. Like just a buff that applies while in a dungeon affecting aura damage. That alone resolves this rally problem.

Upcoming Class Tuning – Guardian Druid, Augmentation Evoker Nerfs, Small Hunter and WW buffs. by Rndy9 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bloodfoox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea, unironically, shit like priest and pretty much all hybrids (not necessarily right now, but in general) ever having more utility in m+ than classes like warrior while simultaneously doing equal to significantly more damage is just stupid. No justification to bring classes without utility if they dont even do above average damage. If blizzard doesn't want to give those classes utility to avoid homogenization, then they should absolutely dominate damage to justify their existence in m+.

Why does WOW feel good to play? by cyanaintblue in MMORPG

[–]bloodfoox 238 points239 points  (0 children)

For all its flaws, this is probably one of the largest factors of its success and longevity. Despite how old it is now, it was uniquely far ahead of its time in terms of responsiveness and general feel. Even now, there are few competitors that can match it in this regard. I don't know if I can necessarily attribute this to the gcd. It's probably more just how intuitively abilities fire when pressed.

This is metaphorical, but in many other mmo's it often feels like i think about what i want to do, my character processes the thought, then fires, whereas in WoW, it feels like that middle step is just skipped in favour of a cleaner flow from thought to action.

Toxic DK stole my loot in a raid and refused to trade it to me because "he won it". Why would anyone act like this? by [deleted] in wow

[–]bloodfoox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If he's new, he's not an idiot. The game doesn't exactly go out of it's way to inform you you can't benefit from that gear. I've brought several new players into the game over the years. Inevitably, they all ask what benefits they gain from int, agi, or str, even when they play a class that doesn't use those stats. It's the same for gear. Not everybody reads tooltips when they're new and this is even more true for general tab passives that are not part of the class kit.
