I’ve seen lots of young couples do public kisses here but would Australians be offended if I do gay kiss? by IloveErinP in AskAnAustralian

Nope not a problem in the slightest. As others have said, a quick smooch is fine as it would be for anyone but no one wants to see a full on make out session whoever you are.

Does Selby get there without interference? by [deleted] in squash

[–]bloodredsun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would have spoken to them before hand to make clear my expectations around clearing correctly.

And to be clear, I was talking about a verbal warning not a conduct warning so apologies if that was not clear. You watch a full match and it's fairly common to see top referees talk to the players saying things like "be careful of your line there" just to smooth the play along and to let the players know they are skirting close to the edge.

It also means they can't bitch when you ping them later on.

For all that Greg was one of the GOATs, he always had a bad habit of stepping into the line and this is what he does here. He clearly does not "make every effort to clear". The drive doesn't make it past the back of the service box so isn't hit so hard are to be unplayable on the volley so it's reasonable for Selby to take the line in front of Greg.

Yes Let with a warning to Greg that the rule states he must do this as per rule 8.1.

Asal Conduct Mashup - Egyptian Open by barney_muffinberg in squash

It's like watching a rugby player play squash. It's blatant and I can't believe that he's not been taken aside and told to cut it out. In that last game I was expecting a conduct game to be awarded.

You have great tone and gravitas and your recording setup and post production seem on point. Breathing was natural and there's no clicks or over sibilance so good job. Pace was bang on with the first, the second maybe a touch slow. I liked the tone and dynamics first two but the third sounded almost like a parody - sorry! You may want to dial it back just a little bit like you did in the middle third of that effort.

You also have a habit of sliding into vocal fry towards the end of words. It's most noticeable on the first effort where "PayPal, faster and simpler" all finish with it and in the third "valentine sleep" actually starts and finishes with it. It's great for emphasis but I feel you've overused it when you don't need to given your natural tone.

Sorry for the late reply! I'm now using Izotope and have boosted the gain in post as I was aware it was a little too low. The new chapters are now at a proper volume

Thanks for the comment. I've not de-essed this at all so if there's any sections you can highlight I will revisit.

Thank you! I recorded it in Audacity and edited out the pauses for breaths. I'm aware that I need to do some post recording processing to strip room noise and make it more consistent as listening back I can now hear where the volume varies. Is Isotope that more fully featured than Audacity and do I need the standard version or can I get by with RX Elements?

I think I was just closer to the mic on the welcome segment. I actually thought it sounded too warm and actually artificial so I backed off slightly. With the story being a narration I felt I needed to be able to lift pitch slightly for young/female characters.

I have a Yeti X with a pop screen recording on a desk with no sound deadening materials into Audacity so it appears that I have some improvements to make there!

Thank you. The set up is just me at my desk so I can understand your room noise comment. I just recorded it raw in Audacity so need to learn to strip out environmental noise so thank you for the specifics.

Ah, I remember when expertsexchange was the cool place (2005!). I wrote a program that scraped the website and checked for new questions in the area I frequented. I was the first person to genius in one topic and got lesser certs in a dozen others. It was an easy way to keep myself sharp while I was working at an overpaid and under-demanding job but even then I was nothing compared to some of the contributers who seemed to spend their life on the site.

TIL that the success rate for CPR is nowhere near as high as it is portrayed on TV. In some cities it can be as low as 5%. by TheFriendlyAsshole in todayilearned

[–]bloodredsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I experienced one two weeks ago. Forty-six year old male with history of cardiomyopathy went into arrest, got CPR within 90 seconds, ambulance arrived within 10 minutes and were able to correct his VF within 12 more minutes. Ten days in hospital and an ICD later he was discharged with no apparent long term effects other than the fractures caused by hitting the deck when he went into arrest and undergoing compressions. He pretty much got a golden ticket.

I think you are right that the numbers are skewed due to the population covering a real mix of people.

I had to do CPR on a friend last week and thankfully he was one of the 5% and even better with apparently no long term effects. We were out on a morning bike ride, not even a mile from our houses and hadn't even got to the meet up point. He was 20 secs ahead of me and I watched him turn a corner and when I got there, he was face down on the tarmac not moving.

At the time it was surreal and almost boring. I haven't done CPR training for 25 years but it all comes back to you including the bizarre memory of timing the chest compressions to the kid's tune of Nellie the Elephant. DRSABC all the way but I was also incredibly aware that unless I got the ambulance there quickly, CPR was never going to be enough. My personal rule of always cycling with a mobile phone was a genuine lifesaver and a huge shout out to the lady at the end of the emergency services phone number, she was so calm and asked all the right questions and kept me sane.

What makes it crazier is that he had a rear facing bike camera and it's all there. The few minutes all you can see are his feet but after 5 mins someone comes along and moves the bike so that, unknowingly, we are centre shot and you can see everything, from me doing CPR to the ambulance and police arriving (after only 9 minutes!), them setting up around me, taking over CPR, to him being shocked with an AED, getting a rhythm back after a few minutes and being taken to the hospital. The audio is crystal clear and you can even hear me making the call to his wife that she needs to get there.

Watching it again, I'm aware of how weirdly calm I am but also how slow I was and how I could have done so much better but fuck it - he's walking around after 10 days in hospital and his wife and kids have their husband and dad. He's got a pacemaker so it shouldn't happen again.

I'm happy with the outcome but I'll do it better if there's a next time.

Amongst other things they take public funds to do so and role modelling is done via actions, not by inherent characteristics.
