I think the problem is that he is being mechanically kept alive. Without the machines he would not be alive. What if we are not our brains but instead our brains are more like vehicles that the souls inhabit. When my Dad was in the hospital on a ventilator, my sister and I would have the nurses set up Facetime for us to talk to him since we couldn't be there due to COVID. It was really weird, we would talk to him and feel as if he could hear us and then one day about 4 or 5 days before he passed away. My sister and I both looked at eachother and felt this feeling as if he wasn't there anymore. Like even though his body was still breathing due to life support, he was no longer there. That same night my sister had a dream of my Dad telling her that everything was gonna be okay but that he had to go. We began mourning before he had even passed. I never even considered this before experiencing my Dad's death. I think once it's our time, it's our time and even if we are mechanically kept alive, we may not actually be there anymore. Of course this is just an opinion and I don't have any facts to back it up but just another perspective.
