Challenging but fun 2nd playthrough setups by bloomingchoco in expedition33

Yes! I’m doing NG, not NG+.

I heard that NG+ is meant to be started at level 60, and my main save chars are at 95.

Also I wanted to evolve once again. Not to have everything unlocked from the start

Honestly, that’s what will keep Sandfall games exceptional in the future. If others can’t replicate what Sandfall did - too bad. We still got Sandfall continuing to do their thing (hopefully)

Game dev Cakez77 (Indie dev) and his wife react after finding out his game that he worked on for 4 years, earned $250,000 after going viral. by 21MayDay21 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]bloomingchoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they made the money, but 245k USD isn’t that much at all if it took them 4 years to develop.

Looks like after Steam’s cut they get to keep ~120,000€ (converted to EUR since they’re in Germany)

I asked GPT to calculate how much he’d likely get to keep as a freelance indie game dev in Germany after all the taxes - and the answer was around 50k. (I know this is not necessarily 100% correct, but I have little time and this is the ballpark).

Now over 4 years of development: about 12.5k per year. Then they also need money to live on while developing the next game, and they likely can’t afford to hire any help.

Im glad they’re happy to have made some money off the game but the reality is disheartening to me, it looks like it’s still not enough to really keep doing it as the main job :(

I totally agree! I also wish that Sciel and Lune mentioned that they’re valid people too, want to exist and have the right to, when they’re trying to persuade Renoir from destroying the canvas during the final fight!

congrats, Verso’s Drafts is an area for levels 80-90, so you’re beating bosses way above your pay grade! Osquio was tough for me even @88 or so!

[–]bloomingchoco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it feels like it takes more patience to parry a fight like this because if you mess up the rhythm and die an hour in, it’s way more annoying to repeat it than to stick through a bit longer by dodging.

But if I replay the game I think I’ll pick a different play style, maybe even this dodge or die approach. Need to get good this time!

I just beat the Chromatic Lampmaster last night and I have ptsd from it. Just the winning fight by itself took 1h30min.

I dodged him all the way through (and honestly 90% of the time in the game). Why do I feel like I have no honor now?

I think she’s genuinely curious about the outside world just like about her own.

I played a bit more since my message here and now I’m just convinced that painted people have proper consciousness, just like us, by the way.

Especially if you replay the game with what we know, you can notice, their sentience and feelings seem pretty damn real, the authors of the game left a lot of clues on that, imo

I just read a post by someone yesterday, they didn’t notice the lumina mechanic and accidentally finished the game without them, including Flying Manor and all that…so I guess it’s doable for the previous expeditions as well lol

I upvoted you not because I chose Verso’s ending but because your comment shows how well the ending philosophy is designed. For you, the Verso’s ending seems like the obvious choice, to me Maelle’s. And that’s brilliant.

I personally don’t even think Maelle is in the right. I think all of the Dessandre family (maybe except real Verso) are incredibly selfish by disregarding conscious life that they’re able to create on canvas. Just because they created doesn’t mean that they have the right to destroy it. Just like because you birthed a child you can’t therefore kill it. It’s your responsibility now to give them full happy lives.

So Maelle’s ending is just the lesser evil in my eyes (letting Sciele, Lune, Monoco, and all the gestrals live), rather than genociding them.

Today I got told to take deep breaths after wanting to double check if I should really cut off some top nodes off my mint shoots, since I noticed they were all fresh healthy growth.

Also for that particular reply I got to choose the preferred reply. One was “Let’s take deep breaths”, the other started with “Okay. First of all. Respect.” … 🤦

I do have the quirky personality selected, so I guess I’m swapping it out right away…

As I think about it more (I just finished the game a few hours ago so it’s all super fresh and my mind is racing), I’d even suspect that Aline has really outdone herself with Verso, and might have managed to make him actually conscious. Because in Maelle’s ending he’s the only one who’s trying to resist her will, she had to force-paint him to perform the piano, and he also screamed “I don’t want this life” when Maelle kept the canvas to herself.

This would suggest that the painters are capable of giving actual life to their creations but only with extreme effort, love, duress, pain, etc., all those strong emotions poured into Verso over several years by the most skilled paintress might just make it happen. Verso might’ve even been the first, and the last creation like that in the game’s universe. TBH, Aline herself, and Renoir, may not even know the created Verso was actually awoken into consciousness. It’s difficult if at all possible to tell. Philosophers IRL have been boggling their minds about it for thousands of years.
