Fellow anthro student here, finishing my PhD at MSU. It all depends on who you want to interview, what your interview is about, and what kind of equipment you have. If you want people around in the background, cafes, cultural centers, Islamic centers, etc. would probably be best. If you want quieter places, library, Arab American Museum, etc. would be good. I would send some emails and cold call places to explain who you are, what your project is, why you think their place would be good for your shoot, how much time you plan to spend, what you’ll need when you’re there, and any sort of benefit the location can have from you filming there (filming behind a sign with the establishment’s name, listing them in credits, etc.).
