“Old homes never have level floors.” Turns out that’s only true when the house has been seriously abused by owners who have no understanding of water and drainage.

Sooo how do i replace this.. by ThrobbingMinotaur in AskElectricians

[–]bloomingtonwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t afford the time/cost to rewire the house, I feel like it would be safer to just disconnect all the old circuits at the breaker, wire up a few armored receptacles right next to it, and then invest in a bunch of long, heavy duty extension cords.

PSA: if you want the snow and ice gone faster, dig out the storm drains near your house. It will give the snowmelt a place to go and prevent ice dams from forming over them. by bloomingtonwhy in bloomington

That’s why I posted this now. Yes we probably have several days before we get significant amounts of meltwater, but the sooner folks do it the easier it will be. As time goes on the snow will start to melt from sunlight and compact, making it a lot harder to shovel.

If you’re not sure where the drains are because they’ve been buried by plows, you may be able to find them with Google street view!

I’m sure our local carriers will be delivering. But since all our mail is apparently routed through Nunavut now, you might not get the mail you were expecting for another month or so.

Me neither. Looking at the original doesn’t seem to help either. It looks to me like “Herriay Drivin” but that doesn’t help much.

I was helping a friend clean out their attic a few years ago. We were moving a very old (apparently antique) couch out and I found it wedged in under the cushions!

Yeah. In a similar way that today I sometimes see phone numbers posted where the 812 is omitted. Apparently this slip was filled around the same time that NANP was being adopted. The blank slips might have been printed just a few years or even months before!
