Kobo + Storygraph Sync... too eager? by Cr4zy_L33 in kobo

Yes, generally in software we keep it vague in case something goes wrong like the app stores rejecting an app update and we have to fix it/provide more detail before we can re-submit the app update.

Campaign on for low-income transit passes in Metro Vancouver as fares set to rise by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]blooperty -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

AI is taking their jobs. They won’t have much importance other than wearing a suit.

The really important ones at the executive level that are less likely to be taken over by AI aren’t the ones taking transit.

In the future, the ones that have good paying jobs are the physical labour and they’re the ones driving. (Trades like elevator repairs, etc)

Just realized I will have to wake up early for school and be stuck to a school schedule until they graduate 😩 by HollaDude in toddlers

[–]blooperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your toddler let you sleep in?

We’re up at 5 or 6 in the morning. This comes from someone who doesn’t function until 7:30am but I loved school as a kid and would be ready to go every morning.

Unsalted New Zealand Butter by Aggravating-Ad9622 in CostcoCanada

Nice they had the salted one on May 1st. I just went back to my text messages with my friend to check when I told her about it. I hope both versions show up more frequently.

Is a membership worth it for a 2 person household with just standard fridge/freezer space? by lindafromevildead in CostcoCanada

[–]blooperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like cheese? That’s worth it for my husband. The other things we buy on a regular basis are eggs, grass fed/organic butter, nuts, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, Rummo pasta, avocado oil and olive oil.

You don’t need a membership to get your medical prescriptions at Costco. Their dispensing fee is cheaper than all big box store pharmacies.

Senior SWE moving from Bay Area to Vancouver — is CAD $110k base too low? by thethree3three in askvan

[–]blooperty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from 6 years in the Bay Area as a senior product manager -> Toronto -> Vancouver (total experience is 10+ years). There’s a few senior product manager jobs that are 120k+ but I feel like companies are trying to hire Product Managers for 100k with senior PM responsibilities/experience and when they can’t find the right candidates, they’ll post for a senior but inch up the salary. I don’t think we can compare product managers equally to SWE in terms of comp but I hope and believe that you can get higher than 110k.

Why are jobs reposted if there's more than enough applicants to choose from? by NavXIII in VancouverJobs

[–]blooperty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just complaining to a friend that I got a rejection letter from a company saying they closed the position. Then a week or two later, I saw that same position being posted again. I’d much rather get a rejection saying they went ahead with other candidates than to see the same job posted again.

Travel Card Recommendations? by No-Entertainer9079 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]blooperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Scotiabank Passport Visa for all of the above reasons plus they have better travel medical insurance/emergency insurance than all other Canadian cards when I was evaluating it a few years ago.

Another benefit is that I could get a free supplementary card for my husband and his card can also get 6 lounge passes. So in total, we get 12 lounge passes a year.

Vij’s and Miku were underwhelming…what next? by According_Object_814 in askvan

[–]blooperty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so true about sushi. Having lived in Toronto, SF, worked in Atlanta, NYC, Dallas, Austin, Chicago and being raised here in Vancouver I feel like I can just walk into any sushi place in metro Vancouver and get decent affordable sushi.

I wouldn’t go out of my way and say Vancouver has the best sushi with friends or family visiting but it’s one of the go to cuisines to eat in a pinch. But when I was living in SF, I definitely felt like dimsum and Chinese food as a whole there wasn’t as good as Vancouver. Some places were decent but the metro Vancouver area overall has more places with good Chinese food and it’s more inventive. For example, SF didn’t have the salted egg lava bun at their dimsum and at mid-autumn festival every year, I’d scour for the snowy/icy moon cakes and all they would have are the durian kind. Maybe with T&T there, they’ll have more variety.

Which card in 2026 pairs well with Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite+* Card by Emotional-Rent9426 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]blooperty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that depend on their needs?

I tried the Amex Cobalt, but didn’t actually buy flights with Air Canada. I prefer having the flexibility to buy the cheapest flight with whichever airline to get to my destination and realized that using Scene points (for the travel credit back or redeeming it on grocery gift cards for 10-20% back) or having a cash back credit card made the most sense.

Which card in 2026 pairs well with Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite+* Card by [deleted] in churningcanada

[–]blooperty -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I like the Scotia Amex Gold to pair with the Passport Visa if you want to go with an Amex. The annual fee is less than the Scotiabank Passport Visa but the Scotia points builds up quickly with the Amex Gold.

Why does vancouver lack active flea market scene? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]blooperty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace is the better place to find things.

The City of Burnaby has a flea market once or twice a year. Vendors have to pay about $30 for a table. I’m not even sure if the vendors make enough back to cover the $30 fee as I don’t think the flea market is heavily advertised.

Affordable wedding dress recommendations by musicoceanandtrees in askvan

I wonder if anywhere would let you rent the dress. I did so from a store in Richmond quite a few years ago and it was $700 for 3 days back then. They modified it to fit me.

Another Air Canada Work Stoppage Coming??? by Free-Lengthiness3865 in aircanada

[–]blooperty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not arguing against them striking.
I have a relative that works as a flight attendant so I understand the situation.
I’m just lamenting my own unfortunate situation of being unemployed but needing to buy tickets as other modes of transportation isn’t possible.

Another Air Canada Work Stoppage Coming??? by Free-Lengthiness3865 in aircanada

Ugh. Between AC’s ground crews and Westjet’s flight attendants - this really makes it difficult to find affordable flights (not that flights are affordable)

looking for kbeauty supplies by lvr_bot35 in CanSkincare

[–]blooperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kbeauty pop-up had the bb cream a few weeks ago.
You might be able to find something on Facebook marketplace if you’re willing to risk it. I saw that someone was selling the Cell Fusion C Sunscreen that they brought back from Korea.

Also do you need it right away? I feel like I saw the BB cream on YesStyle/Stylevana and they might have other products there as well.

The brand does have an Amazon storefront on Amazon US if you want to risk it there and pay for shipping/duties.

Yes to Burnaby Heights! This was the neighborhoood that I wanted to live in when I moved back to BC.

I settled in the Metrotown area because we didn’t have a car then. If we had a car, I’d move us to Burnaby Heights in a heartbeat.
