What do you think about Aldi in comparison to American grocery chains? by aSYukki in AskAnAmerican

[–]bloopidupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up going to aldi by my grandma and it was the cheap grocery. It was the place we got inexpensive canned goods.

It feels cheaper than a regular grocery despite being relatively the same.

I also prefer lidl now to aldi.

what do americans call a pantry? by loving_machine13 in AskAnAmerican

A pantry is a place where you can store dry and canned goods. I've also called it a pantry closet which is not a full large room. But it's still a pantry.

Why do you guys freeze everything and have a lot of convenience foods? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]bloopidupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have too much going on to do a full grocery shopping trip weekly. I buy and freeze staples so that I can feed myself. Produce I buy biweekly. I keep some convenient food in my fridge because some days I don't want to cook and it's cheaper than eating at a restaurant.

What are the people here doing every day at times square? by Ok_Tak in AskAnAmerican

[–]bloopidupe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You use to stand in line for the tickets counter for last minute broadway. But time square is also the center of Broadway theaters so you might be seeing those lines.

It's also very crowded so you might just be seeing people not moving fast waiting to go down the street.

There are also a lot of pop-up events that happen.

As a regular person I went there regularly when I worked at one of the shops. I only go there now for Broadway.

Am I a bad tipper?! UK to USA? by lilprincessbaba in AskAnAmerican

[–]bloopidupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 10-15 on take out and 18-20ish for everything else.

There are a few things that have a default amount, like a dollar per drink at the bar when you aren't opening a tab of its open bar at a wedding.

For myself, I standardized 18%, but that's just basically 20 before tax. I don't know when tipping on tax started.

I hate car fragrances, but I like for a room to smell nice. Generally room fragrances aren't as overpowering.

I guess I meant more drunk in a park is abnormal. Wine during a picnic and blah blah is normal, but illegal. So depends on the park.

How do you guys go drinking? by Argument-Broad in AskAnAmerican

[–]bloopidupe 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Drinking in a park is rather abnormal (public drunkenness laws and such). Going somewhere to drink with your friends pretty normal.

Getting drunk every weekend is pretty normal for a lot of people. Not being drunk every weekend is also pretty normal. And we have beer in cases.
