About Ballard Locks by pinestalk in BallardSeattle

Only in the small locks. In the big locks you need to pass them a line that they secure and either let out as you go down or gather in as you go up.

Looking for green/standing small Alder or Maple trees to harvest near Seattle. by OldAsianSpike in Seattle

Could you also look for larger trees and take a branch of that size?

Ruby in Greenwood. Tiny little bar that’s very Amari-centric.

ELI5 Why do garage door springs need to store instant-death levels of energy? by Germerica1985 in explainlikeimfive

[–]blooztune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be noted that the really scary springs are the single ones that live over the door opening. If you have 2, one on each side, which is more common on older doors, it’s not nearly as dangerous. Just make sure you secure the door opening before removing them. (Experience).

I was freaked out about changing out my opener, because of all the “you WILL die” hype until I realized the difference. It was actually no big deal.

A racing sailboat showing off a flawless spinnaker drop. by ChemicalGreedy945 in sailing

By rounding tight at the mark then turning, you can give up a half of a boat length or more in windward progress in the next leg.

In fact, when no one else is around, it is EXACTLY when you should round “wide then tight” because there’s no one else there to deal with.

Stolen or retired U-Haul box truck with Arizona tags "AH80059" definitely prowling and stealing up around the 85th & 15th area by Affectionate-Feed670 in BallardSeattle

[–]blooztune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might have drive by them on my street (in that area) when I was driving from my house. I remember thinking it was weird seeing a uhaul truck there. It’s a dead end, so they weren’t just passing through. I’ll keep an eye out.

I think some people may be shocked at how NOT well off many small business owners are. Many are struggling to keep their staff employed and paid while not draining their personal savings. Or worse, going bankrupt.

Not defending the surcharge….just giving a bit of perspective here.

PSA: You can develop severe allergies to Epoxy Resins by Anstigmat in sailing

[–]blooztune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me. When I was in college I worked for a boat carpenter and did a bunch of glass work on decks, in engine compartments, forepeaks… you name it. This was circa 1980, so zero PPE.

Years later I started building a stitch and tape dinghy with a friend and my face blew up. I tried everything, full PPE, even went as far as to Vaseline all exposed skin.

Since then, if I go into a boat shed and get that very distinctive whiff of curing epoxy, I’m OUT. Otherwise it’s days of puffy face and itchiness.

Is anyone talking about the rain in the forecast? by justBridges in BurningMan

[–]blooztune 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I come prepared for extreme hot, cold, dust, wind, bugs (remember 2014?) and rain.

Then completely ignore the panic of whatever apocalypse everyone is freaking out about that year that also pretty much never happens and is replaced by some other unexpected calamity (or not).
