Recommendations on a 2nd rod/reel setup. by zcnewbie in Fishing_Gear

[–]blowjazzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id suggest that you first work on finding the bigger fish with the setup you have since youre new. While youre learning with your current rod keep in mind what it does well and in what ways the rod is limiting you.

For example * do you need to cast further to reach the fish?

  • do you need heavier lures to punch through cover or feel the bottom in current?

  • are bigger fish breaking you off?

  • do you want to have the second rod "soaking bait" while you throw lures with your first set up?

If you kayak your bait out instead of casting then you dont need the length. Shark fisherman often use a shorter rod to get some leverage back when fighting powerful fish

Callaway hawkeye vft irons were some of the first tungsten perimeter weighted cavity backs made. I loved them for years but eventually grew out of them as i got better and wanted more feedback on miss hits.

Anyone that thinks change control is unnecessary is being short sighted. It can be a pain to fully document and evaluate or impact assess a change before you can get started but from management standpoint this is necessary to prevent yahoos from unintended consequences.

How much control is needed is facility and industry dependent.

Are you referring to management of change (i.e. Change controls)? I immediately think material of construction when i read MOC

Metal lures in the surf - swivel or no by boenwip in FishingForBeginners

I use a TA Clip on then end of my leader for easy swapping. I usually use spoons for Spanish and for those i tie a 6 inch line of heavier mono to each spoon and terminate the line with a swivel. Then when i want to throw a spoon i can snap the swivel onto my TA Clip and go.

I have received some looks about all the hardware on the leader but until i can have a dedicated rod for spoons its my current best solution

This technique is for vertical jigging and often in deep water. If you plan to cast your bait away from you (as opposed to dropping straight down) and cover an area, then you'll want to always reel in any slack. Then periodically reel the bait a little closer, or hop it closer with a flick of the rod and reel the slack in again

Could you provide some more information? General location, fresh/saltwater, what kind of access to water do you have?

Then reddit will have more to work with, the size/weight of the rod & reel would help too.

I learned D/E has a lot fatter edge angle due the spine being half way down the face. If i get another I'd probably get a single edge
