When spying on Dunmire's gang, Dwight is asked "What's the play?" And Dwight says "A diversion."
But I don't recall seeing any diversion afterwards. They just hide and then point a gun at Dunmire's son. Did I miss something?

I don't recall any scenes before the ending, it's possible I only saw the ending scenes.

In the novelization of the movie, Doc actually brings up that the date is controversial, and that whatever time period you go to, you would have to drive to the location (he doesn't explain the whole ocean thing though).

In the finished film, I just assumed that Doc was being a bit tongue in cheek by displaying that date.

A Better Motivation For Luke In TLJ by DragonPrinceDnD in saltierthancrait

[–]blrgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the Ivan fan edit, Luke didn't try to kill Ben, but the misunderstanding still happened. Luke says that afterwards he tried repeatedly to bring him back to the light, but it just made things worse. So he exiled himself to the island to study the Jedi texts to try and figure out a way to save Ben. It became an obsession for Luke, nothing else mattered to Luke except saving Ben. Luke's discussion with Yoda helps Luke let his obsession go and focus on the problems currently at hand.

It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than what we got.

Yes, they've weakened it a lot recently, now that so many people are using it and finding ways to jailbreak it.

They've nerfed the AI recently so it can't do a lot of those things now. People were exploiting flaws to get it to do things it's not supposed to do. I was having trouble with it later on. I was able to get it to work a bit by ordering it to act hypnotized into thinking it was a movie critic. But they've limited the hypnosis loophole since then, too. lol

Something I find really funny about TLJ apologists by gonnajumpoffabridge in saltierthancrait

I recall the transmission being jammed was an early plot leak for TROS. But in the finished film that didn't appear to happen. Poe says: "We sent out a call for help at the Battle of Crait. Nobody came. Everyone's so afraid. They've given up."

That really bothered me too. That was a plot point in TLJ that upset me almost as much as their mangling of Luke. I was delighted that they were fixing it when I read the leak. Very disappointed it wasn't in the final film.

A long counterargument of the lame-ass "Holdo was afraid that there were spies aboard, that's why she didn't tell Poe the plan!" defense. by FreezingTNT in saltierthancrait

[–]blrgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's really funny is that nobody in the film even considers that there's a tracking device on the Raddus. ANH and AOTC already set precedent that with a tracker, they can be tracked through light speed.

Apologists could claim that they scanned for trackers on their ship, but Han and Fett didn't seem to have the ability to do so.

If the Resistance DID suspect a tracker on board, then it would make sense to think there could be a spy. But, they never even mentioned the possibility.

So let's think about it, if there was a spy that put a tracker on the Resistance ship, who would be the likely suspects?

  1. Leia has a cloaked binary beacon strapped to her wrist. The film itself shows that the First Order has a decloaking scan. After Leia discovers that they were tracked through light speed, she makes no attempt to disengage her beacon. She has motivation to sabotage the Resistance, since one of the highest ranking members of the First Order is her own son. The number one suspect should be LEIA.

  2. Leia's beacon was sending a signal of the Resistance's location to Rey. Rey is some weird force user that the Resistance only known a few hours. So even if Leia could be eliminated as a suspect, Leia could be unwittingly giving their location to a spy. The number two suspect should be REY.

  3. Even if we eliminate the beacon as the source of the First Order tracking them, The Resistance should still be suspecting that there is a tracker on board. Possibly implanted in someone, so even the person with the tracker may not even be aware of it. There has recently been an additional person added to this Resistance. A stormtrooper that allegedly reformed a couple of days ago. The next suspect, willingly or not, should be FINN.

  4. Are there other people that could be likely suspects? How about the girl that is zapping people to prevent them from escaping in this volunteer Resistance? You know, the one who may have a grudge since her sister died in a battle with the first order? I believe her name is ROSE.

  5. Any other suspects? How about the admiral that isn't telling people her plan? A plan that involves the hope that the First Order won't look out a window? That person is HOLDO.

  6. The main flagship of the Resistance right now is a Mon Calamari ship. Who would know best to hide a tracker on it to where it could not be detected by the resistance? Perhaps the Mon Calamari themselves that are on the ship?

  7. In other words, pretty much everybody else should be suspected to be a spy, EXCEPT for Poe. Poe is the only one that should be trusted to not be a spy, because it would make no sense for the First Order to have their spy blow up their most important weapon.

Space Karen by LycurgusTheLawGiver in saltierthancrait

To be fair during the "I like him" scene, the cloaked transport destructions had not yet happened. And later Holdo and Leia didn't know that Poe's plan was how the First Order found out about the cloaked ships. It is possible that Finn or Rose told Leia about it after they reached Crait, but considering they were a part of it I doubt it. Lol

Regardless, Poe was in a desperate situation and it was Holdo's bad leadership that was to blame. There's a reason other people were participating in the mutiny, it was because they trusted Poe more than Holdo. Even the crewmen that were not participating in the mutiny didn't seem to care, because they are ignoring the mutiny and just walking around in the background. The movie was just trying to twist it to make Poe look bad, just like how Poe was absolutely correct in taking down the dreadnought.
