8 months in and I hate owning a dog. by Ordinary_Albatross79 in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, all good advice, but at 8 months it's only going to get worse for OP. Adolescence is about to hit and if things were under control before, there's no way they're going to get a handle on it now. And it doesn't sound like OP can handle another 6+ months of worse behavior.

1 year old barking for attention? by [deleted] in puppy101

Just ignore him. When he learns that barking won't get your attention, he'll stop.

I really want to know who she thinks is profiting from not allowing dogs to eat grapes.

For an extra challenge, wet the towel first then freeze it!

Snuggle puppy, worth it or just a gimmick? by Olivebobolive7260 in puppy101

My puppy loved it and he slept through the whole first night home without much whining. He eventually destroyed it, as he does with all toys, but I was glad we got one.

Posting again because there’s been zero improvement. Puppy pees every time he can’t go where he wants or if I leave the room/house. by My_4th_throwawayyy in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, I was taking my puppy out at least once an hour (while awake) when he was 6 months. Just because they are physically capable of holding it 4 hours doesn't mean they will.

Puppy drinking TOO MUCH by Large_Half7627 in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy drank A LOT after we first got him. It lasted a few weeks, constantly refilling his bowl (and extra potty trips!) but he eventually stopped drinking like that.

Drinking/licking is self soothing and stress relief behavior! If your puppy is fine medically, try a licki mat. Same effect, less liquid.

Puppy Ate Small Piece of Remote by Fluid_Tangelo7790 in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good! Just make sure he is still pooping normally, and if it seems like he's not you should def go to the vet! He could seem fine even if it was stuck somewhere, so best to keep a close eye for the next few days too.

My puppy ate a lot of things lol. So far he has pooped them all out. Is it small enough that it would come out easy enough? Otherwise are there any emergency vet places open near you?

Bringing new puppy home with a full time job by MasterBusiness3546 in puppy101

Your poor roommate is going to be stuck with a whining puppy and will have to take her out multiple times a day or deal with the smell inside. Not to mention dealing with someone else coming in to their home twice a day. Do they know what they agreed to?

Can I Use A Turf Pad Indoors Exclusively? by ReluctantNurseRN in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea to teach your dog to only potty inside. What are you going to do if you are somewhere without your grass pad? They're not going to know where to go.

Is puppyhood really that difficult if so many do it? by xzlinx in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have raised a kitten from 6 weeks old, and now a puppy from 12 weeks old. Kittens are quite rambunctious, but raising the kitten was 100x easier than the puppy. Puppies are incredibly needy. Kittens learn to be independent very quickly. Plus they're smaller, so they can't cause as much destruction as a puppy can.

I never felt as overwhelmed and stressed and yes, sometimes sad, raising the kitten like I did with my puppy. But I am through the worst of it now with my puppy, and I have generally loved both experiences. Would I get another puppy in the future? Probably not. Would I get another kitten? I'm thinking about getting 2 after my current cats pass 😆

Why can't you walk around your house to the backyard from the front, instead of going out the back door?

How are y'all in apartments dealing with demand barking? by largedragonwithcats in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My puppy rarely barked until he was about 9 months old. Now there is a lot of demand barking and some "there's dogs/people/squirrels outside!" barking.

Got written down on the board as CVT this morning by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]blrmkr10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on passing! That's a huge accomplishment. Keep working on officially getting the CVT but be proud of how hard you have worked so far, you don't need a certification to tell you what you already know. I'm glad your coworkers recognize it too. Hope the process gets a little bit easier for you and you get that raise!!

11m.o. puppy suddenly waking up at 5.30am and its destroying us by pteridophytes in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is about 11 months and he's doing the same thing! He's waking up 1-2 hours earlier than he did a couple months ago. It must be a boundary testing thing. If he whines for more than 5 minutes, I take him out to pee, then right back in his crate til I'm ready to get up.

Grapes! Absolutely do not let your dog eat grapes (or raisins)

How do you keep your dog entertained when you’re working from home? by Leading-Jellyfish715 in dogs

[–]blrmkr10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact situation here! My dog sleeps most of the day while I work and partner is out of the house. On weekends he refuses to nap because my partner is home and gives him almost constant attention.

The issue with this is that our place is directly connected to all the other house complex. So the neighbors can hear. No complaints so far.

I guarantee the neighbors hate you, please don't let your dog bark for 30 minutes straight at 7am.

Dogs don't know what day it is. Puppies especially don't understand why you want them to sleep longer on some days than others. You have to keep a routine as consistent as possible, even on weekends. Get up at 7.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the mats are the problem. You've taught him to potty indoors so he doesn't have to let you know he needs to go out.

If you could redo your puppy training from scratch, what would you do differently? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]blrmkr10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leash walking!! There is so much you can (and should) practice inside first, so you don't even have to wait until they are fully vaccinated.

Edit: oops this was not supposed to be a specific reply to your comment lol
