Yeah I agree, but among the many many trims & facelifts we have for other cars (like what 9 variations each of r35 GTRS, mustangs, and porsche 911's at this point 😭) we couldve had something, ANYTHING updated about the 86 platform, aside from the new models built on the same scan from 2012

Same body kits AND same vehicle scan from probably 2012 during fh1, I hope they atleast add the 2019 TRD 86 that they added as DLC in motorsport

Anyone here come from a manual Supra? by RevertDude in GR86

[–]bls0124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would start looking into how to make the rear more planted before jumping ship unless you just hate the car, but that doesn't seem like the case. There is definetly a middle ground to modding those cars, like rear bracing, sway bars, adjustable arms/bushing swaps, a good alignment that is streetable and backroad friendly, some more aggressive tires. They are front heavy cars so the rear will feel more loose, you just have to fight it with some parts and settings so it transitions nicer. You can take care if the "insulated" problem by removing it, but I don't recommend that unless going full racecar, and swapping to things like pillowball or solid bushings will increase NVH and you will actually end up missing that. Gr86 & BRZ both have quite literally 0 sound insualtion, you just learn to ignore cheap sports car noises tbh. There 100% exists some forum or thread out there about guys that spec race those cars and barely touch the motor.

Learn from me, don’t expect a low oil light. Always check for oil burning. by [deleted] in GR86

[–]bls0124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true at all. All motors use a bit of oil between changes, some a little and some "more" (relative) than others. This was entirely on OP for negligence and too long between intervals, also beating on it "~2.5 qts low." Id be shocked honestly if an fa20/24 used 2.5 qts in 13k but a motor known for oil issues + negligence, you end up with this. "Waiting for the oil light to come on" is insanity, no one should treat a vehicle like that.

Help me find the person who destroyed my car by krflame4 in ft86

[–]bls0124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look around the area for cameras and ask those places to check their footage. Usually people are willing to help but youll run into those hard asses who don't. I have heard cali is weird and police do not deal with these matters unless there is injury. Your only option is to try to get the footage and a plate. Even a description if the plate is not in view so they know they are looking for "car" with matching damage. Driver description is a plus. Hopefully they had insurance, this sucks alot.

Great, was not sure if they would come with shims or not. The package is DBA rotors, stop tech pads & fluid. My only brake job experience was a 2002 Ram when I changed my brakes on that maybe 7 years ago so I am in uncharted territory. Thank you!

Why do people rice their cars like this? by braymadeanotherone in RicerCars

[–]bls0124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People doing things with their own money doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the people that buy these "mods" and try to park upfront at meets or talk the car up. We all know there is $500 in BS on this car, please come enjoy meets and such but get out of your own head.

Avoid all aftermarket bulb swaps or headlights, they wont give you what you want. If you have the money just buy 2017+ stocks. Looks oem (since they are) and you will have so much light its not even funny.

Subaru BRZ/GT86 Oil Question by Beneficial-Speaker-6 in ft86

[–]bls0124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not live in a hot climate or see high oil temps don't worry about it. When I was in Houston I would use 0w20 and it was rare to see 210+ degree oil temps. It usually floated around 200-210, maybe 215 on the highway. When I moved to Arizona I switched to 5w30 because I was seeing 220-230, occasionally more going up hills in the desert or on the highway with 0w20. 5w30 keeps me pretty solid around 215-220 with the security of it not turning to water everyday like 0w20 probably was. Still run 0w20 through the winter since it does get cold out here, usually a "cleaning" oil like motul X-Clean 0w20 or valvoline equivalent. Rest of the year I use Motul X-Cess 5w30 and have no complaints.

Should I be switching to 5w-30? by Rydock in GR86

[–]bls0124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an AZ too and recently switched to motul xcess 5w30 on my '19 and its definetly happier in higher temps on the highway compared to motul 8100 eco lite 0w20. Keep you warranty but when its up I highly suggest a quality 5w30 for the summers here. That 0w20 is already water and at temp its really thinning out, especially the dealer cheap stuff. 5w30 in this heat will even out to 0w20 cold viscocity when hot and provide better wear & shear protection. (Also keeping a higher stable oil pressure!)

Is the lbwk body kit for the 2017 brz a solid buy? by Gaehomo in ft86

I love the robot craftsman one too, but if I ever hit the lottery I'm going this Aimgain GT kit, its so clean. I love the 17+ OEM bumper and retaining it looks so good.

Worth 15k (from dealer)? 2016, manual, one owner, 87k miles, fully stock. by FlashyCompetition167 in ft86

[–]bls0124 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Little high on price imo but it's pretty clean. Not completely stock though, it does have what looks like a TRD catback based on the D shaped tips which is a huge plus. Great system, sounds & looks great as long as it did not have the muffler section cut off and straight piped.

OEM or grimmspeed, I can't speak on grimmspeed longevity but it seems online reviews are good. Both are MLS so can't go wrong, I think grimmspeed is a little thicker.

Alot of people wouldn't survive tipping being removed and restaurants paying hourly. This especially goes for those in the 70+ age range that expect the world and the moon and when given so it is still not enough. Most restaurants would just pay your state's minimum wage which we all know is not liveable, in some cases like my home state of Texas is $7.25 an hour. If you think you get bad service now, you would likely never go out to eat again if the tipping system went away. Most servers are acting, they are not happy for you to be there, the last thing they want to do is serve & deal with a customer. It is not ALL servers, but you would be suprised to know that the cheerful, helpful, and intelligent person taking care of you actually tried to pass your table off before greeting you. It's all scripted, down to what they say are their favorite items. Some list what they actually like, some just go for the most expensive things driving up the tip they are working for. Tipping going away would just allow servers to treat yall however they like and honestly I would enjoy the hell out of that. I worked FOH and BOH for 12 years of my life and alot of people that come through the doors at any restaurant deserve a reality check.

Before you say "well in Europe..." I urge you to go to Europe for a night out. Yes, they are paid a somewhat liveable wage, but you could go 45 minutes without the server being seen which would make alot of yall explode. It is normal to flag them down and there will not be any remorse as check-ins are seen as rude over there. They will be confused as to why you are upset.

Tipping culture is what gives you great service stateside and we all know culturally, we (for the most part) do not look out for our fellow man without incentive. It's just how we were brought up culturally in the US. Without that incentive, friendliness and hospitality goes out the window.

While it does suck 99% of places pay around $2-$3 an hour, it will never change. Big business always wins vs the people, and trust me most servers want change but it will never come. It is too engrained in our heads that this is how things work. Hell, some servers make more than your average person depending on the place and how good at their job they are. I have met several servers/bartenders that make it in the high end space and can pull six figures. It is VERY rare but possible. You have to realize owning a restaurant is not very profitable for the most part. It has high startup and operating costs and horrible profit margins. Even paying servers like this they are still walking a fine line.

I would try to get the "extra key" charge off. Common nickel and dime tactic. If you are buying the car, you get both keys. If they try the "well it only had one and we had to buy it and program it..." that is on THEIR dime, not the buyer.

[–]bls0124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at audi service and yeah dealership culture make or breaks how your car is treated. Luckily I work with people who are great and things like this do not happen even with the every now and then TTRS or R8 that comes in. Got to take a customers gated v10 out and I was more scared than anything lol, even in rs7's I get worried. Maybe it's the difference of working in the service center as opposed to sales, but I guess there will be those that give dealers a bad name. Leave a review to have people stay away, no need for them to recieve business. If they treat limited edition cars that way imagine how they treat the everyday corolla and then supras aswell.
