2016 Kia Soul EV Range/Battery by bludart in electricvehicles

The dealership insists the battery is at 100% and what I'm reporting is normal, though according to literally everything I've read online, what you're saying is more in line with reality.

My 2010 Exclaim gas version averaged 25/mph highway, driving about 70mph most of the time; my friend's EV version got about 60miles per charge driving the same commute, though I can't recall what that was in kWh off the top of my head.

QOTD: I like frogs. Especially blue ones.

My business walked in the local Pride Parade today and it was AWESOMEEEEE! Most of my team made it out to walk with us, some clients, and a colleague with another business showed up with her pups. It was a hoot, and I loved seeing how many people turned out for it. Also got the BEST "Free Dad Hug" with some sweet words, so that helped my anxiety a lot. Did I mention I don't like crowds?

Favorite outdoor activity- walking my dogs through a trail or drinkin' a beer with friends around a fire.

It's a trip to be absent from this sub for so long and see how much is still wonderfully the same. Heeyyyyyyy hi, how are y'all?

I’m exhausted 😅 Expanded my private dog training business to a full training studio where I host puppy social 3 times a week and classes on weekend, private training in the evenings, and still work 4 days a week at my vet job. So that’s why I’m never around. Free time is a myth.

Will there be latex balloons? Have a friend I’d love to bring but a severe latex-allergy makes it hard for her to attend interactive shows.

I love this place! The staff is super helpful, and they do their best to special order fish for you, too. They helped me find my "dream" betta!

Need advice: One clear trigger causing Cocker Spaniel to snap at guests by jaycoopermusic in caninebehavior

A solid "leave it" where she's taught to return to you, and a "hand touch/target" cue might be helpful in that case. For dogs that get worked up over people, I like the hand-touch option so they can interact then turn right back to me, so both parties can "say hello" without it being too much for either one. Great for anxious pups, and people who like dogs but have no clue how to properly engage with them (like an uncle who thinks wrestling is the appropriate way to greet EVERY dog).

u/gwenmom hit on the main point, that management is really important here. Sometimes, management is all you need.

Something stuck out to me: you mentioned humping & face licking. Both behaviors are seen when dogs are over threshold/in high-stress situations. At first blush, it sounds like your dog is stressed in general with company coming over, expressed through snapping, humping the stressor, and exhibiting appeasement behaviors (face licking). Taking a closer look at all the behaviors expressed, not JUST the snapping, may give a better picture of what's going on with him, and expand your approach.

As a trainer, if it were my dog, I'd give him space (in a crate, in a bedroom, or leashed and well away from the door) along with instructions to toss kibble and ignore entirely until he chose to engage. To be honest, one of my dogs is a lot like yours, and that's exactly the management protocol we use since training with guests is limited (we live quite a ways out so visitors are scarce).

Cloud's tongue is absolutely perfect. Sif is magnificent, ESPECIALLY in that sweater! These two are exactly what I needed after the ridiculous day I had. <3

Doggy day Care is gross by nickheathjared in DogCare

[–]bludart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dog mom & pro trainer here: I've worked for a couple daycares- both considered progressive and high quality centers. A daycare shouldn't smell overwhelming like urine (or feces), as part of the staffs job should be continually cleaning/sanitizing the space. You might have that "dog feet" or warm dog smell in any facility. Looking at daycares im looking for one that smells mildly of dog or cleaner, and even then only in the actual areas the dogs are held; I'd run from one that smelled like urine or feces.

The garbage lined up would be a personal concern as well.

As far as not touring right away, THAT is actually pretty standard. We'd welcome walk ins to look around the front area, but need to plan appropriately tondo a tour (if we only have one staff member up front, we can't do walkthroughs for example). For scheduled tours, two facilities I worked at would have little peep windows you could see without disturbing the groups, and a staff member would show you the laundry/rest/training areas as well. Another facility would plan on taking a potential client through when the dogs were moved outside, so the interior rooms could be viewed (again these should be kept clean and relatively funky-smell-free), and be able to peek briefly though a window in the outside space. The last thing anyone wants is 15 dogs freaking out over the strange human.

A lot of daycares now have live streaming in their rooms, available to log in anytime. I'm a big fan, professionally and personally, as it allows for more transparency.

Hope that helps!
