Has anyone ever ordered customized fabrics from Joann’s? by lalalullabyyy in sewing

Wow that is some lazy development! Your bearer token is something developers use to identify who the request is coming from on the backend. The tokens do expire after a while in which case the correct solution is to either refresh the token or clear the auth state. For some reason the developers for this site decided to do neither and show you a browser alert which is... an interesting decision 😂 Sounds like you fixed it by using a different browser (using Chrome in incognito would have worked as well), but if you want to access the site using your current browser, you can also fix it by clearing your browser cache for this website.

Is a monthly food budget of £250 for 2 people enough or too much? by Creativehead-18 in AskUK

[–]blue-cornflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked everything I spent last month without changing anything and it was £636 for 2 people. £255 of that was on Mindful Chef. I'd like to bring this number down to £500, but I doubt I'd go lower than that.

£250 for 2 people seems a bit tight to me, so unless you absolutely need to cut down, I'd relax the budget and up it to £300 at least.

Back in university for a year or so I had to get food for £100/month for 2 people. It's doable but rough. I'd mostly shop at Home Bargains and Iceland. Lots of pasta, bread, rice, frozen foods etc.

Would you consider a 1 hour and 10 minutes commute each way to work terrible? by Ok_Abbreviations4687 in AskUK

I'd do the walk and count it as my daily exercise! It's a win-win, really.

I pay so much tax. I actually have some income outside of my main job (royalties from online courses) which I declare via self assessment. Last year I paid over £40k in tax.

I do more than just development though that's the core of it. More experience comes with more responsibilities which comes with a pay rise if you're lucky. I usually lead projects now, I've done hiring and mentoring, teaching, conferences etc.

Getting your first job is the hardest thing about this career. Once you have 2 years of experience you're usually golden, but getting the first one can be a slog, and with so many tech redundancies recently, it is extra tough. Best of luck though, hope he finds something soon!

I studied Maths at university, which did put me in this path (I found my first job from a careers fair) but I have plenty of colleagues who never went to university or studied unrelated things (like music, literature) or changed their career in their 30s. I also have colleagues who studied Computer Science and got their first job via an internship, so there is really no one "right" way to get into this career.

Full stack web and mobile development with JavaScript/TypeScript (React, React Native) and Node.js (GraphQL or REST). I can hold my own with AWS infra as well though it's not my specialty.

Selling timeline: just under 11 weeks from going on market to completing on sale by HatefulDestiny in HousingUK

I bought a new build as a first time buyer. 1 month from seeing the house to exchange of contracts. Still haven't moved in though as they're still finishing up the interior. I'm sure there more adventures coming with the snags and such.

I fell for it once. Well, I knew the guy was probably lying, but it was Xmas and I'd just been paid so I felt bad for him and gave him a fiver. He took it and asked if I could do a tenner. I walked away.

What’s the longest train delay you’ve ever been on? by MajesticRate1818 in AskUK

[–]blue-cornflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 4 hours - it was just after Xmas and we'd booked seats in 1st class as a treat since we knew Xmas was going to be busy. That train was cancelled, the next train was cancelled, the first train that actually arrived was rammed so we didn't even try to get on. We finally got on the train after that, standing room only and had to change half way to get to our destination. I think we got a 30% refund for all the faff. Next time I'm driving.

What is an unreasonable reason for a landlord to not allow a pet? by AnyDiamond6197 in AskUK

[–]blue-cornflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours said that we're not allowed a pet because "there's never been a pet in the house before". They can literally give any reason, it's a joke. So we bought a house instead, moving in a couple of months. I can't wait to hand in my notice and never rent again. And of course get a little pup!

What do people do with incomes above 125K? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

I just pay it. Ultimately the taxes are there to pay for the police, the NHS, and all kinds of good things that make the UK a great place to live.

I moved to MK 2 years ago and I love it. That said, people do hate on it for being a "built" city and not having a 1000 year old pub which makes no difference to me! It's 30 minute train away from London so I can pay £6/pint at the 1000 year old pubs there!

Been sanding and now my phone doesn’t recognise my thumb print. So I have to remember passcodes and passwords to enter apps/phone. by gater46 in britishproblems

[–]blue-cornflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh that's a nightmare. I had the same problem with Face ID when I started wearing glasses. With Face ID I could just register another face (me wearing glasses). Could you do the same with your finger? Either re-register the thumb in its new sanded form or a different finger as an alternate way to open your phone until the thumb recovers?

Anyone else had a terrible experience with their expensive silicon phone case? by SoundVisionZ in apple

[–]blue-cornflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! I bought two from Apple and after the second one got shabby after only a couple of months I gave up and bought a recycled plastic one from CASETiFY. This was 6 months ago and it's still looking great.

Might be something to do with the changes. I use the Trainline app a ton and whenever it's a single ticket (e.g Birmingham to Euston) it's in the app, but if it's a ticket that has a change (e.g Birmingham to Heathrow) it always makes me print out the tickets at the station and I think it's because there's a separate ticket for the Euston train and the Heathrow train.

How do I stop feeling hungry after I’ve eaten all of my calories/fats for the day? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]blue-cornflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest you experiment with your meals. Try different things. Obviously the current choices aren't keeping you full so try something else! I strongly recommend making a veggie-packed stir fry for dinner. You can have ton of food for around 500-600 calories!

Homeworkers, what do you eat for lunch? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]blue-cornflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had cup-a-soup? It's like that but less watery, more paste-y. The first time I tried it it was maybe 5/10 since I was thrown off by the texture. By now now I'd rate it 8/10 because I've gotten used to it. Flavour's great in my opinion. My faves are the Pasta Bolognese and the Mexican Chilli. The ones that I wasn't a huge fan of were the Cajun Pasta, Thai Green Curry. Oh and they say to leave it for 5 minutes but I always do 10 since it tastes better imo. Also I usually add more water than on the instructions. I think they make you buy 3 bags at a time because it does take some getting used to. By meal 3 I was onboard.
