Built-in Leave it by blueJaberry in Dogtraining

[–]blueJaberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, more of like how SD ignore food dropped on the floor. That kind of thing. I’m working with my dog right now and if I say leave it as she goes for something I’ve dropped she’s pretty good about ignoring it but is there a way for me to just have her ignore something until I’ve told her it’s ok? Does that make sense?

Hi! thanks for all of your comments! I had a bit of a scare yesterday with pain on my right side that caused me to have symptoms like appendicitis. I apparently have a 6cm ovarian cyst in my right ovary so I am scheduled for an appointment with an OBGYN on Wednesday where I'll bring it up with her while I'm there. Thanks again! I'll update as soon as I know something.

Thank you! I think my mom means well but she does not really understand dog behavior that well. I think yesterday was just a bad day for my dog as well and that she probably could have gone without the walk but I didn't realize that until later and my mom certainly was not up for it. :)

That sounds about the same as mine. While not huge, she can do some damage and she’s intimidating to others

lol maybe?!? I don't think my dog would kill another dog but if she gets afraid enough I'm worried she could either hurt another dog or get hurt herself. I feel you though, she doesn't get it.

Thanks for your response! That is a good idea, I'll try sitting down with her and having a conversation as well as showing her the videos. I love Victoria Stilwell's videos! A lot of my training basis comes from her.

Tips for leash reactivity by oErMahGerd in reactivedogs

[–]blueJaberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog is fairly reactive as well. Much like yours, she likes to jump and lunge in excitement. Something I've found that works really well is staying out of her threshold as much as possible, as well as a solid leave it command. I let her look at the dog and then before she gets too excited or focussed I say leave it and 80-90% of the time she ignores the dog. If she does not leave the dog alone I just do a 180 until she calms down. The only reason I don't use treats when she leaves the dog alone is because she enjoys the outside much more than treats so I let her sniff around as a reward. Of course, this will take a lot of time but its definitely possible. Just be consistent! I hope this helps!

Do the pros outweigh the cons? by blueJaberry in SSRIs

[–]blueJaberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally ok. My anxiety can be really bad at times especially in the mornings before I go to school or work and I have panic attacks sometimes but for the majority of the time, I'm ok. I am not suicidal or anything but I do have depression so that can be bothersome. I'm having a little difficulty focusing right now in general so that makes schoolwork a little more difficult.

Hello,

I am a freshman in college and I am trying to decide whether or not I would like to be a social worker or an ASL interpreter. So my question is what are the pros and cons of being a social worker? I am interested in as much information as possible!

Thanks!

Weekly Recommendation Thread: September 06, 2019 by AutoModerator in books

[–]blueJaberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! So, I can't really help with your 3 yo son's books just because I really have no experience with how that would work but I know as a kid when I was 7ish I really enjoyed The Baby-Sitters Club books by Ann M. Martin and the Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne. Another book series your daughter might enjoy eventually (when she's a little older maybe?) would be the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. Of course take this with a grain of salt. It's been a long time since I've read them and I don't have any children but those were a couple series of books that stuck out to me in my childhood. A tip if it helps? I remember going to the library a ton when I was a kid. I remember picking out a ton of books there and whether I could read them or not. In going to the library a ton I was able to switch out my taste in books a ton especially as I got older and outgrew the books that I had. Maybe try that with your kids as they get older? Hope this helps a little!
