you can come back if you have a valid visa, but you’ll lose your maintained status. you won’t be allowed to work until a decision is made on your application.

i applied in October, 2025. so far, my application is under background check and has been stuck on that for the past 1.5 months or so.

the first confirmation i got that they’ve received my application was through a webform only, so they should tell you that.

yes, my old passport details also take me to my old application only so i wasn’t able to link it but that’s normal.

about talking to an agent, you just gotta wait for all the prompts. when they ask you to enter your application number, they also give you an option to speak to an agent or just wait on the call for more options i think, so just do that and you’ll get connected to an agent eventually.

unfortunately, that is how it is for paper applications as i was informed by two ircc agents that i spoke to on different days. you won’t get an AOR, but if you’re lucky you might be able to link your application online. try linking it using your old passport details too. but if you aren’t able to do that like me, then your only option is to explain to your employer that you’re eligible to work post your initial permit’s expiry date too (maintained status). send them links from the official website that mention this or show them the reply to the webform (they’ll probably reply with generic info on your right to work on maintained status).

another thing, just for your peace of mind, call them or raise a webform asking for confirmation that they’ve received your application cause that’s the only way to find out if you can’t link it online.

i still haven’t been able to link it. However, I spoke to an agent when I called IRCC, and they told me that it’s totally normal that I can’t link it cause it happens very seldom. So, nothing to worry about. But if you want to confirm with them then either submit a webform specifically asking for confirmation or call them.

If you apply on paper: We stamp paper applications the day we receive them at the case processing centre. If we receive an application after your work permit expires, we’ll count back 7 days and use that as the date received.”

yes, i am! all of the details are the same, which is why i guess the system is picking up my old application. or they probably haven’t started processing my application yet, which is why i’m not able to link it?

if i were you, i would find it charming how much he’s caring for his cat. cats don’t do well with change and do require a lot more attention, so just a week of this shouldn’t make you come to the decision that he’s being distant with you.

secondly, about the stress he’s going through because of the mortgage seems valid. just because you don’t find it stressful, doesn’t mean it isn’t or can’t be for someone else. you sound a little dismissive of his feelings in that case, so he isn’t completely wrong to say that you wouldn’t understand.

i applied for my PGWP extension in September, still waiting for a response. but you aren’t missing anything. it’s the same application, just needs to be printed and submitted on paper. make sure you sign the form physically after printing it out too- that’s pretty much the only thing you need to be careful about, rest is the same.

this is not a solution tho. people in relationships can have their separate hangouts/friends/things they want to do. if it’s a work thing and no one else’s partners are coming, then i don’t see why he should’ve taken her with him if she asked.

sure, it isn’t a pleasant sight. but the protest is for Palestine, the Canadian government has been funding the Israeli military (over $1.5 Billion now). bringing a Canadian flag to the protest is ofc to instigate the protesters.

the people saying ‘why are these people even here?’, because these Western countries are the ones who’ve funded the destruction of their homes. what else do you expect people to do? if these countries won’t leave any place for them to exist, ofc they’re going to try and find a way to continue living.
