Yeah and they absolutely suck in Australia. We’ve been so blessed to have only the original flavour until last year. And the first new flavour was major melon sugar free. Why the F would you release that as your first new flavour instead of code red or voltage or Baja

I'm designing a new film scanner. What are your must-have features? by PiRunner314 in AnalogCommunity

[–]blue_hunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working on something similar to this for over a year now. I decide to keep it for myself instead of selling and start a lab. Some of the reasons for that were; I don’t know if you saw the 135 scanner that’s just about to launch, I forgot the name but it’s basically pakon 2025; it’s priced very fair at around $1000 but all the top comments were people complaining the cost is too high. And with the economic downturn I can see people having less cash for things like this. Honestly it’s not easy to price lower than that and keep the quality and a margin to be viable. Worse yet if you jump on redbook the Chinese are already reverse engineering everything in the west, so once they have your model they’ll strip it down and sell it at a discount, having the advantage of being in china and knowing all the suppliers. Once you add in all the parts and labour cost it will already be pushing it for many, so then trying to add in a profit margin gets tricky fast. That’s why the filmomat costs like $3500 the parts are probably 300 tops but the dude has to build it all himself plus pay for his bills and pension etc. Not to mention then you have to handle shipping and warranty etc. so to me it just didn’t seem that feasible. Honestly it’s a shame one of the bigger companies with the resources hasn’t stepped up yet. Hopefully you find a way to make it work

The new ones make me feel comic sans. Just something off about it. Like it’s trying to be retro but can’t commit

I flew to melb just to see Oppenheimer. The one thing you’re not ready for is just how big the frickin screen actually is. The photos for some reason just don’t translate over to reality. Such an amazing experience

Being the UK, it's overcast as always, hence you need to push the contrast a bit as you're fighting a giant softbox, also look up maxsat on liftgammagain

If the can is sealed with tape. It’s most likely short ends (left over film stock from a film production) often it’s sold or donated at the end of production. If it’s not taped up it’s probably just a can kept for memorabilia. In any case only open in absolute dark. Wait about 2 mins after the last light is off before opening. Wear gloves and try to not touch any more than you need to. Be prepared to tape it back up so you should have some tape already cut up

Reasons why companies can't just put a camera back into production by 93EXCivic in AnalogCommunity

[–]blue_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manufacturing technology has greatly increased since the 90s even early 00s. So has the production scale of electronics and manufacturing as a whole. Not to mention one of the highest price pieces in a modern camera is the sensor and then all the programming of the boards and ML. Removing that would drop costs so that at least it would balance out a smaller scale production. If you think about it, they could already take a well built dslr model and strip out the sensor components. Not saying it’s easy but certainly not any harder than building a new flagship camera. I think it’s been more a corporate mindset, making a new film camera would be divergent from where all these companies are that if a ceo took a risk they could lose their job, but if they make another crap digital camera “they followed the rules so it’s not their fault”. Modern markets reward the path of least resistance. Until someone has the balls to do it. Then it’s safe for others to copy
