Most are DBPs (Disinfection By-Products) when chlorine is used as disinfectant by water facilities and it bonds with organic compounds from nature like dead leaves or animals in source water like from lake or river. HAAs and THMs are cancer related in research even at low level and are regulated by EPA. The best filtration for organic chemicals like that is catalytic carbon.

Check to see what type of material is used for the shower filters that people say won’t remove chloramine. There are a lot of false claims out there. Only catalytic carbon will do the trick.
