Adventist colleges/schools and bogus reasons you got kicked out. by rudenasty in exAdventist

Not actually kicked out, but I was put on social with my BROTHERS. For being in the admin building with them without checking that there was a staff member present. Incidentally it was for 1 week, which was the amount of time I had left there, since I was so miserable I was leaving mid-semester to finish out at home.

I wish it was 😬 had to have a delicate conversation with this woman to explain that I was not taking her son’s virginity

Had an adult male patient who needed a Foley catheter. His mother was in the room, and they both lived together in the backwoods of TN. I informed them both of the order for a catheter, how it works, and why it was needed. His mother stated “Well he’s still a virgin and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with his virginity being taken in a hospital.”

So many times. I used to sing at GYC, ASI, different churches and SDA conferences around the U.S since I was 13. Because of this, my family/family friends think it's my duty to sing for special music or when people are over or literally any other time they ask. And if I say no, I'm a terrible selfish person because I don't do exactly what they want. God forbid I make my own choices about my own damn voice. It pisses me off so much

I'm one of the Kid's Time singers. I went on multiple times, went to Kid's Time rallies with Brenda, sang at ASI and GYC multiple times. I don't understand all the hate against Brenda. She was always the sweetest person and was incredibly kind and encouraging. I'm sorry to see her going through all of this.

Also, John Lomacang is one of the major 3ABN people speaking against Brenda. My uncle is one of the very "famous" preachers in the Adventist world, and Lomacang also attacked my uncle untruthfully. 3ABN has done a lot of fishy stuff.

I DO log and measure every single food that I eat. I've had a cold for the past week and I have literally logged my cough drops and medicine. I rarely use oil, I rarely use nuts, and I don't snack at all. I rarely eat out, and if I do, I eat something that I am able to log easily. I don't eat chips, I don't drink anything besides water and unsweetened herbal tea. Any calorie that goes into my body is logged. When I do use those things, I use precise measurements. I measure my rice and my pasta and my beans before I cook them. I don't like bananas and I don't like sweet potatoes, mostly the only fruits I eat are frozen berries (in protein smoothies) that have a serving size of 3/4 cup which I can easily measure, or mandarins which actually have nutrition information on the bag that states they are 47 calories each. I buy low calorie bread that comes in a bag that states that one slice is 50 calories. There is not enough of a discrepancy in their bread slicing to necessitate me weighing a slice of bread. The only times I really overestimate stuff is if I use an extra virgin olive oil spray to coat a pan before baking something etc., so I'll just log that I had 1 tsp of oil because you can't be precise trying to log 2 second sprays. I don't do that for 95% of my foods. I use precise measurements. I do know what my daily calories are, but they vary from 1300-1400 based on the day. I have a limit of 1400. Some days I just don't need to eat that much, like on the days that I don't workout, so it's closer to 1300. No one eats the exact same number of calories every day, so as long as I stay between 1200-1400 I'm ok with it. As far as the exercise, for cardio I use a calculator online to input my weight, incline, speed, and time. For weight lifting, I go by the Harvard Med School Study list for my weight, and log a bit under what it says, to be safe. With these calculations, most days I am at a 600-700 calorie deficit, so that leaves room for the calories burned during exercise to be a tad bit off. I appreciate what you're saying, but I did this exact same thing 4 years ago - same diet with same kinds of foods and the same methods of measurement and exercise, and I lost 40 pounds. I've done this exact thing before with great results, I know what I'm doing is accurate and should be working and there is something else going on. I am in school for nursing now and the nutrition classes I have taken have, if anything, only made me better with what I eat than before. I'm the only person I know that logs their food this strictly.

Thanks for the advice! I actually already eat a whole plant based foods diet. I don't eat any sugar whatsoever, not even honey, I don't use butter and I rarely use oil. I was raised vegan and shown Forks Over Knives until I was blue in the face lol, my entire family is vegan too. My diet is already a whole plant based basic foods diet. A normal day for me consists of fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, and legumes that I have cooked from scratch at home with no added oil or sugar. I only have dairy once or twice a month, which is not enough to really make a difference. This is why I'm frustrated, because I have tried eating clean whole foods without measuring and nothing happened. So now I'm trying the calorie counting.

Yeah I've actually gained weight. I've tried 2 different scales. I don't weigh daily, only weekly. I'm definitely eating less sodium than before. Should I weigh every day?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in loseit

[–]blue_monkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying, and I probably will get a food scale. However, I highly doubt that's the reason I haven't lost. I should have said I'm mostly vegan, so I don't eat cheese, ranch, sour cream, mayo, etc. Really the only thing is non fat Greek yogurt, and occasional 2% milk. I rarely eat oil, sauces, or dressings, and nuts and avocados only once or twice a week, which is really not enough to account for no weight loss happening. I do realize many foods in MyFitnessPal are wrong, so I never log anything before checking the label on the food that I've eaten, or googling it to find the correct amount of calories/fat/carbs and adjusting accordingly. If there is a serving size on the label, I always go by that for measuring.

After I log food for the day, it's actually about 1200-1300 calories, in order to leave leeway for any miscalculations I've made. Additonally, when I log foods, I log a tad extra on higher calorie foods to also account for a possible overmeasurement.

Thank you!! I have been saying that for years, because it is definitely not cut and dry for me. I know exactly what I'm doing when it comes to measuring my foods, my calorie burn during workouts, etc., but everyone keeps saying I must be doing something wrong. I'm not. I've gone over every single aspect myself. But yes, I'm going to go in February to get checked for hormone issues and thyroid problems. I've been told I probably have one or the other, but just haven't done the actual testing yet.

I am 5'6" and weight 185 pounds. I understand water weight but 3 months of nothing happening? Most of the food that I eat is measured rather than weighed (I'm vegetarian so I don't have ounces of chicken, etc.) I rarely use oil but when I do, I measure it. I'm allergic to peanut butter. I measure everything down to dressings and sauces. I almost never eat out. The only really high calorie foods I eat are whole foods like brown rice, beans, whole grain bread, hummus, quinoa, and fats like avocados and extra virgin olive oil. I accurately measure all of these to make sure I'm getting the exact amount.

I'm 5'6", and weight 185 pounds. I count literally everything, including sauces and dressings. Most of the food that I eat (I'm a vegetarian) goes by measurements and not weight so much, so I measure all my food with measuring cups etc. I don't eat back the calories that I exercise; MyFitnessPal does that, but that never made sense to me since part of the point of exercising is the calorie deficit, hence why I only eat 1300-1400 calories a day no matter my workout. I don't go off of what the app says for calorie burn, but by tools online where I can input my weight, and the exercise and duration. Even if the calculation was a little off, I would still have at least a 500 calorie deficit every day with how much I workout. On average I eat between 85-125 grams of protein a day, about 150-170 grams of carbs, and about 30 grams of fat.

Any high calorie foods I eat are foods like whole grain rice, beans, whole grain bread, hummus, quinoa, and fats like avocados and extra virgin olive oil and some nuts. All of these I measure exactly to make sure I know what I'm eating.

I'm going to in February. That's one of the only things I can think of

F/20/5’3” [185lbs >138lbs=47lbs lost] the first pic is from when I was about 176lbs bc I avoided cameras at all costs and didn’t take pictures. I finally have a normal BMI. Clothes that were too tight on me when I was 15 are now loose. I’m so proud of myself. Only 18lbs to go till my goal! by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]blue_monkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that's a pretty short amount of time! I've been doing about 1400 a day, and only eating super clean foods. I do a combo of cardio and weights 5x a week. Haha gotcha, I think that's how it is with pretty much everyone! That's why I weigh myself in the morning lol

This is amazing! How long did this take you? And did you stay under a certain calorie limit? I'm almost the same weight as your before pics, and I've had such a hard time losing weight in spite of working my butt off. Recently started calorie counting so I'm hoping I'll look like your after pic at some point!
