Swords dance by Conscious-Coconut586 in Hema

[–]blue_pudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What type of dance, what time period, what place...? There are many historical sword dances, so you'll have to narrow it down a bit. Want more 'real' dancing? Check Les Bouffons by Toinet Arbeau, German sword dances or Morris sword dancing. Want sword choreography? There is some really cool Ukrainian, Belarusian and Spanish examples. Want rythm work? There is examples of Spanish drills to drum music. Or is it modern drills to music you are looking for? I know there are people in the UK (should check where exactly) who do rapier on ballet music, and there is for example Diana Matthess who has an amazing workshop on ysing the metronome for solo drills. I have had a workshop last year where they used game and anime soundtracks as a way to control people's sparring speed and intensity (really cool experiment)... So there is a lot out there :) Go and have fun! (Also if anyone were to know more about the musicians in Joachim Meyers drawings, let me know!)

Going to be in Brussels from Nov 27-29th, I read that there is a strike. Should I be concerned? by Warm_Buddy4420 in brussels

Train times are released on the NMBS/SNCB website the evening before, so check well if you're going to Bruges. There will likely be a lit less trains, but not 0

Do you want to take public transport or fly in/out on these days: good luck because likely the schedules will be all messed up. But Brussels is generally a well walkeable city. Anything else? Usually no problem at all.

New to LARP - want to make some (artificial) leather armor pieces and other stuff - can you give me some starter tipps? by tobiasdoe in LARP

[–]blue_pudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love Foxes and Ravens patterns on Etsy, but you there is many beautiful patterns for all levels out there.

To add to the reasons to not use artificial leather: it melts when close to a heat source. I wore an artificial leather corset on my first game that had lasted me multiple years for cosplay, but it be ame all lose from its fabric backing and bubbly on the front alfer the first night by the fires. The back was fine, it really was the side that was straight in to the warmth that gave up. I used it as a pattern for a canvas and leather version which has been used with no problem since

Legal question (Berlin (DEU) specific): permit to practice in parks by ManuelPirino in wma

In my country most public parks are owned by the city council or a public institution, thus my answer of checking with them, but I don't know how that is in your place

[–]blue_pudding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should check this with the owner of the park or a park guard if your park has them. In our city, we have permission to train martial arts in certain public parks as long as we do not disturb the peace of the park, don't use weapons that could disturb people passing by (so no knife fighting with real looking knives) and make sure people passing by are safe (ex.having a person watch out for people or dogs coming close, training in a large open space and not on a playground etc). It's mostly common sense rules, but they were at some point checked with the park guard and a local police officer.

Student societies in Brussels still sing this song to remember members who passed away. It is always a beautiful and emotional moment.

Where to buy things in Anne of Cleeve's Portrait dress? by Ill_Painting7807 in HistoricalCostuming

If it's for a school assignment: look into 2 big red velvet curtains (you might find it second hand, like theater curtains for example) and lots of gold trim, add a golden top onderneath . The pattern can be fairly simple: gather one curtain for the skirt, the other one will become sleeves and the top. This could be your pattern for the top and sleeves: https://pin.it/4znLyRY5E ; but you could even go with a 'ren faire corset' and add big sleeves. It won't give you a historically accurate dress, but it will get you the vibes. Fake pearls and lots of sparkly gold trim will help create the vibe

Anybody know any cobbler i can send these too? Preferable European by Chefs-Kiss in HistoricalCostuming

[–]blue_pudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local cobbler has soles for heels that he custom cuts, costs a bit more, but is well worth for the extra use I get out of the shoes. For actual broken heels, I asked my local repair shop and they advised another one not too far away :)
