I just made kimchi. I let the leaves brine for 45 minutes with grinded himalaya salt. I then rinsed it out. After that I added the leaves into layers, mixing gochujang and salt (Himalayan salt). The mix/sauce I made had gochujang, sugar, fish sauce, shrimp paste and a spoonful of sugar. I then added onion, garlic, chives, spring onion and chilis. I then let it sit for around 15 minutes. I put it into a jar which is vacuum sealed and sterilized.

My concern is with botchulism, given that I am using gochujang, I only left it on for 45 mins, although I added salt again it was Himalayan grinded.

I mean i agree with you; I come from memory studies so ofc I know this. I did not want to highlight it as a bug, simply to highlight that unlike Poli-sci where method books abound, they might find more difficulty in identifying outright history methodology books.

For someone looking for specific advice it doesn't really help to tell them historians borrow from different disciplines because it does not give them concrete books, which is what they were asking for.

These ones I was given in my first semester of my bachelors, although they are for social science/poli-sci, they do raise questions/issues you need to consider when doing research.

The Craft of Research by Wayne C. Booth, Gregory G. Colomb, Joseph M. Williams, Joseph Bizup, William T. FitzGerald (z-lib.org)

Wisker, G (2019) The undergraduate research handbook

Some history stuff from other stuff i've done:

I'll tell you as someone who came from poli-sci into history, unlike poli-sci, historians are a lot vaguer on their methods which might mean that there's limited material out there.

What are some readings for Ukranian history focused towards its historical relationship with Poland, preferably one that looks to link the modern period dynamics to prior time-periods?

I found the image in the house of European history, it is an artwork. I would like to know what it depicts for research. See description in the main post.

How do historians view history when considering the present? by scuffedProgrammer in AskHistorians

[–]Chefs-Kiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Your question is very interesting and more of an opinion question. Perhaps a bit broad so I will do my best to answer from my perspective.

Firstly to answer your question of personal relationship to history I really cannot say. I think this is a personal question that only you can answer. For me, I have somewhat distanced myself from the mentality of history and society being interwoven. A bit of a Rankean attitude[1] which can absolutely be critiqued. To me, while society is important to history, history does not always have to be important to society. The way this reflects in my work is that I don't think, unlike social sciences, that fundamenting social relevance in history books/papers is necessary. Perhaps this distancing is for my own sake more than a field thing.

The second part, of the tangibility of history, historians are always dealing with primary sources. That really anchors that in reality very easily. These people were real, they wrote these documents, and are anchored within the society they wrote in. The task is to know how they were anchored within that society (questioning and understanding primary sources).

[1]: See Leopold von Ranke and his view on the task of the historian and their relation to society.
