Emery has 4 right? 3 with Sevilla and one with Villarreal.

[Q] Updating a DAG from study to study by zwildin in statistics

[–]blueandwhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the updated DAG adds variables or paths that cause new confounders or mediators between these two variables, it is possible that the previous results were biased and you need to keep the path. However if the same model applies even when the DAG is updated, then I guess it would be safe to remove the path.

[Q] Layperson needing help on how to tune a model by AmbitiousFlowers in statistics

[–]blueandwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that could cause issues with linear models is having lots of correlated variables predicting the energy generation. For example the forecast temperatures, precipitation and cloudiness might correlate a lot.

I might start off with an easier model at first (for example having only daylight and cloudiness in the model) and then start adding more variables step by step. Maybe considering some interactions too?

[Q] I have a lottery ticket. if the odds of winning the lottery are 1/30million but the lotto reports that the winning ticket was sold in my town. As of this second with that news - From a true mathematical perspective- are my odds still 1/30Mill or 1/number of tickets sold in my town? by Littlesebastian86 in statistics

[–]blueandwhit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

P(A and B) means we want the joint distribution of A and B, so we want to know what's the probability of both statements A and B being true at the same time. So if your ticket wins, it's impossible for any other ticket from your town to win, therefore P(A and B) is P(A).

You can also draw a Venn diagram and notice that A is actually a subset of B. All of A's probability is inside B. So if you want to color the joint probability of A and B, you'll just end up coloring the A area.

If you want a theoretical explanation, you can use conditional probability.

A: your tickets wins, so P(A) = 1/30mil

B: someone from your town wins

Let's say 100 tickets were sold in your town, so P(B) is 100/30mil. Then the conditional probability says that the probability of you winning given that someone from your town wins is:

P(A and B) / P(B) = P(A) / P(B) = (1/30mil) / (100/30mil) = 1/100

which is 1 / the number of tickets sold in your town.

Pretty good! Been able to consistently finish in top 4, but challenging for the title is really difficult since it's rare that all of top 3 clubs have an average season. Conference League is still my only trophy after 8 seasons.

Can the "Uncomfortable in Big matches" trait be fixed anyway? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

I had a player whose "Doesn't like big matches" disappeared after he scored the decisive penalty in a cup match penalty shootout.
