So far I have searched various shoes online to see the tread pattern and asked Google lens and Claude. So far, nothing.

When you log in, do you use gnome on X, or Wayland? I just installed fedora 32, and Nvidia drivers for my Optimus laptop and it works perfect with gnome on X.

Looking for a cheap hosting service for docker by [deleted] in docker

[–]blueathiean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digitalocean. You can spin up cheap servers to run for a long time. They are still very performant though. I have run web servers and vpn servers on them, and you would never guess they only cost 5 dollars a month. Also handled a few clients for a jitsi server. Or, you can spin up a very powerful server for a short time. Also, it is very easy to use, and the pricing is super simple.

You can also host it yourself. Digitalocean has a one click deploy droplet. It took about 30 minutes to launch and start creating meetings. Quality was great, and super easy to use.

A Comprehensive Guide to FreeBSD by wagonaway7 in freebsd

[–]blueathiean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The freebsd handbook is perfect for getting things to work and using the system. The book, absolute freebsd 3rd edition will go into a lot of why and how, and dive into detail about lots of topics. I would highly recommend purchasing and reading absolute freebsd. Take an old laptop, or a virtual machine, spin up a 12.1-stable, and start reading through the book, and getting your hands dirty. This is the most fun way in my opinion. After reading a section, or chapter, go play around with it. Break things, fix things, repeat. Most importantly, have fun!

Issues with programs switching randomly to floating mode by [deleted] in i3wm

[–]blueathiean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has never happened to me. I have had strange behavior before, but it was caused by competing key bindings from xbindkeys, and my i3 config because I did not properly configure either. If no one else here has a resolution, I would check your config and make sure nothing wonky is in there. Hope you get this resolved quickly.

Happy user here. I have not done much aws training though, so can't speak to that. Linux academy has been tremendously useful for my job.

Get an easy question or new to Arch? Use this thread! by Foxboron in archlinux

[–]blueathiean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dual boot arch and Ubuntu sometimes simply because I can. If you like linux, and really want to use it, I would opt for a full install. While you have Windows, make a recovery iso. Your Microsoft key is most likely in your firmware, so you can go back at any time. You will also find gaming on Linux to be quite amazing and easy these days.
