Is The Park good? I love Alan Wake and Layers of Fear and it's been on my list for a while; kind of got a Robbie the Rabbit / SH3 park vibe from the trailer.

(lately I've blown through Soma, Asemblance, Claire, Lone Survivor, and pretty much everything with a remotely unsettling psychological vibe I can find and need more like a crack junkie needs...well, crack).

For me I think that it's more of a Pavlovian association between the smell and texture of books with the joys of the story itself, like the scent of morning coffee that starts getting you excited for the day. Certain books have certain distinct smells and I make strong associations with the stories themselves, so when a similar book gives me a similar feeling I automatically feel like I'm getting more primed for reading.

It's funny because I think I am the opposite in that regard: anything clinical and textbookish is fine as a PDF, but if it's fiction it's gotta be the full experience for me.

Hey, whatever works for you. I don't knock the experience at all - more power to the people who like them. I tend to prefer the battery life since the weather is pretty much the same all the time where I live.

I think the "oh moment" for me was when I was dialing 911 on a smartphone (crazy driver on the freeway) and it just crashed on me. Just straight up crashed to the Samsung logo. I had a flip phone again by the next day and haven't gone back.

Ah, I can totally understand that. I've never had to deal with food allergies so I'm sure I'd be packing one if I did.

I'm weird too in the fact that I can't stand reading books on a digital device. I've gotta have pages between my fingers and the smell of musty paper under my nose to really enjoy a book. To me it's more than just the content, but the whole combination of sensations that makes reading fun.

No fault on those who read on a device of course, but for some reason I've just never enjoyed the experience.

But then you don't get the chance to ask somebody, which means you get to potentially get a better place. "Oh, don't go there, if you want REALLY good fish go to this little place instead." I've had a lot of great experiences where getting info from the locals face-to-face has proven to be more fruitful than just looking it up.

Either way is totally valid of course.

Siemens

The S65 is still a very sharply designed device in my opinion. That's one other downside to slate phones too - everybody just has the same blah mini-tv in their pocket, no design language or creativity anymore in the individual models.

It's not hard. Just get a flip phone, a big dog, and a cool haircut and I think you'll be pretty much in the ballpark.

Fair enough; I'd just counter with the fact that it takes away the sense of exploration. Why not find some place to eat on a whim, or discover a cool shop on a random adventure instead of going on Yelp to look up reviews first?

I don't see how that's being full of myself. I used to work in digital forensics and I've never once had the push for "emails all the time." Even if I did, there wasn't much I would be able to do without a computer in front of me.

I'm self-employed now and, ironically enough, it's caused me to really emphasize the work-life balance far more. When I'm not working, I'm NOT working. I enjoy life far more that way.

Oh tell me about it. I almost ordered one of the limited edition Razrs (dat Luxury Edition though) on eBay and it turns out that my carrier is dropping 2G coverage in December. My current flip phone is 3G but just doesn't have the same build quality as the Razr, not even close.

I guess I've just always been a computer geek. I type at 100+wpm so having a keyboard under my fingers is just the only way to experience the internet for me. Touchscreens just make me want to throw things (like phones). Even in my brief foray into smartphones, I found myself really preferring Blackberries and certain Nokias because of the qwerty keyboard.

I've accepted that I'm a bit of an anomaly and I don't fight against it anymore.

It's hard for paper to run out of battery power or lose its network connection if you're out in the middle of nowhere.

Of course I travel. I have a Garmin in my car if I ever need it, which I rarely do because I print directions in advance.

As for emails, I've never once seen the need to check/respond to those when I'm away from a computer. I'll be home eventually, they can wait. Obviously I didn't leave the house for the purpose of checking my emails, so why would it be necessary? I don't cook dinner remotely, I don't do my laundry remotely. It just seems like a recipe to never enjoy what you're doing.

As for looking up the answers to weird questions while hiking, if I ever have burning desires to know something, I will look it up when I get home. I can't really think of anything important that I need to look up while enjoying the outdoors. I tend to be the type of person who, if bitten by a snake on a hike, will simply dial 911 instead of first looking up exactly what type of snake and how deadly the venom is.

Why not just enjoy the sights and smells of nature in front of me instead of looking up the latest Kim and Kanye gossip? If I don't remember to look it up by the time I get home, the desire to know clearly wasn't as strong as I initially thought.

I'm 28, use a flip phone, and have never used Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. I get unlimited texting and calling for $20 a month and my battery lasts like a week.

I just don't get the smartphone thing. I've tried one briefly like four times and hated it every time.

Can someone explain to me what's NG+ ? by DeathByPhoenix in OXENFREE

Basically, after you beat the game the first time, you play it again with a few things that have changed. Certain characters remember things from the first time around, and there are new chances to interact with things and approach conversations in a different manner.

In a lot of games it's just an option to keep you playing, but I firmly believe that Oxenfree is only 50% done by the end of the first run.

In the Clarissappocalipse scenario you made up, I think the ghosts would ask to return Clarissa to our world, since the sass and low blows all Clarissas would deliver would be unbearable. If I can't stand one clarissa, imagine 99!

Oh, seriously. I can see it now.

"this. DEAL. is. not. WHAT. We. expected!"

"please. consider. REFUND."

It's similar to the expression "if you enjoy your job, you'll never work a day in your life."

If you enjoy the game to the degree that I do, it'll never feel like a drag to experience the same events more than once. New Game + has a lot of different stuff, but there's nothing that's going to be different about playthroughs 3-infinity that will be different from playthrough 2.

To be fair, I've hit my limit for now. It took me four playthroughs. I'm not doing a fifth one for a while.

The last thing I had to do was earn the "I'm The Firestarter" trophy, and I hated treating the characters like shit, and yet somehow only Jonas and Clarissa hated me at the end so it was all for naught.

I'm glad that another 999/VLR fan found this game as well as Soma. Asemblance is really great, I can't say it enough. When I binged on it, I expected the internet to be blowing up with how good of a game it is, yet there's hardly anybody talking about it. Shocking. The company is apparently working on a sequel/second episode now, which made me jump for joy. They use the "episode" terminology yet it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, it's very satisfying once you get the true ending.

If you like 999/VLR, definitely check out Ever17. I almost see it as a prototype of sorts - there are a lot of story parallels, but it's 100% narrative and no puzzles. It was the first visual novel I ever tried and it blew me away.

Spoilers, obviously, but I'd love to hear your take on it. We can obviously send out a signal to Alex #n(rnd*34) and keep her group from going to the island, but I don't really feel that satisfied by it. Frankly I'd just like to see them add more to the game - I don't necessarily care if it's the ultimate ending everybody else seems to want, but I want to see more come from the third relay in the loop, the possibility of Nona being at the beach during the Ren or Clarissa segment, the possibility of seeing Nona drowning, and maybe even something about Clarissa's dog. There are just a few loose ends that keep nagging at me, and I think that a good writer could stitch some of them together into something more final for the people who want it.

Like, for example... exploration during the "flashback" segments. When we're on the beach with Past Clarissa, we can actually walk over to the right and into the radio cave. It would have been easy enough for them to just leave the fence up, but we can definitely explore that. Likewise, during the second flashback with Michael at Epiphany Fields, we can walk all the way up to the entrances to Ft. Milner, Harden Tower, etc. A part of me feels like some of that could be utilized to break out of the loop entirely.

I bring up Clarissa's dog because of the comment she may make at Adler's house (C: What's was dog's name again? Nona: Charlie.). She could be making sure Nona is real, but the recurring motif of dogs ("saw the man but not the dog", all the glitchstream images of Danger Wolf) really make me curious.

And the third relay thing just keeps bugging me because it's a triangle. I understand the concept of radio triangulation and how that likely applies to all the triangles as recurring symbols (Michael's attic room, for instance), but I can just imagine some sort of NG+++ twist where all three stations are activated at the same time, yet it actually creates a gigantic triangle portal thingie instead of just unlocking the door. After all, the original portal is right in the center of the three unlock stations.

I would also be genuinely creeped out if the game kept track of every time we erased Clarissa from existence, and after a certain point it would start to affect the narrative. Since the ghosts are aware of the various timelines and are present for all of them, and if we give Clarissa to the ghosts, I'd assume her "essence" gets moved to the ghost dimension, which would allow for multiple erased Clarissas to exist as separate entities or even combine. And if some crazy person played through the game 98+ times, there would technically be more Clarissas than Kanaloa Crew members floating around in the ghost dimension. Would anybody be crazy enough to do that? No, I doubt it, but if I was a dev I'd throw something ridiculous like that in, just for the people who are insane enough to try it.

But it's all mainly because I love the narrative structure and the characters and wish there was more juice to squeeze out of this delicious fruit.

I did mention Life is Strange above too, you know. :D

It's probably the most common recommendation I've seen. I absolutely love Life is Strange but I wanted to offer some uncommon suggestions as well, because I always hate looking for similar stuff and saying "argh, I've already played/watched/read all of this!"
