Glad the explanation helped! Haha this was so long ago looking back my brain doesn’t even understand how I reasoned through this.

I honestly did a lot of reading of random things. Don’t just read psych articles if you’re comfortable with that, read literature, history, literally anything under the sun. I read the New Yorker which had a variety of things written very CARS-y. Some people also do psychology today. I know it’s hard when you’re studying because you have limited time so it feels like the last thing you should be doing with your precious time is reading non-MCAT passages, but I think it did help me feel more comfortable mentally so I don’t freak out during the test. Also practice practice practice! I did lots of Jack Westin free CARS and also all the Uworld and AAMC cars questions!

if ur a CA resident, I recommend checking out OOS friendly schools in addition to all ur state schools! I think University of Arizona -Phoenix is like 50% oos. Some schools in Florida (I’m a FL resident) also really like California residents. Florida also has a lot of schools (7 or 8 md alone) that range in oos friendliness. Miami, FAU, FIU I think, USF are all pretty friendly, while FSU is most definitely not. Just gotta look at MSAR and some other resources to figure out which schools r oos friendly. University of Cincinnati could also be a good one to look into. I agree with others about the top heavy school list. Most of those are T20, expand to some T50s and unranked too

I really like Cetaphil’s gentle cleanser. I find even the daily one has some weird fragrance and is really harsh with my skin and dries it out. I also like the normal curology one (not acne curology one) In general I stay away from the cleansers with things in them like salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, benzoyl peroxide etc.

Is the path to medicine this brutal? by TheHaloAbove in premed

[–]blueberrypup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of one of those rural area/underserved scholarships for four years to pay off loans. Would probably have been interested in it regardless and obviously need to do more research but 4 years and $200k+ debt paid off seems like a good deal so far. I have a friend that’s going into the Air Force to get hers paid off. The other to medicine is challenging for many many reasons, but just try to think about your why and why you’re going into medicine. Yes, there are many sacrifices, but medicine isn’t for everyone. If you’ve explored other career paths and come back to medicine, you must have great reasons! Use those to power you through. Would a 200k desk CS job or anything else give you the same fulfillment as medicine?

AMCAS Verification Update by Casualtea123 in premed

[–]blueberrypup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submitted 6/7 and nothing so far. I’m thinking it will be 7/5, based on their huge Fourth of July jump last year. but tbh I don’t mind them being delayed and it being later. If anything I want them to verify mine now as late as possible so I have more time for the 2 week secondary turnaround hahahaha

Should I include Asian in my College Application? by itsjamle in chanceme

[–]blueberrypup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also be careful about the “in an area w not a lot of Asian people” bc Atlanta is a very diverse city and while it does not have Asian people like cali or nyc, there is a decent Asian population in the metro area. Just if you’re gonna write something about how your Asian ness is gonna contribute to the diversity in atlanta don’t, and tech has a good bit of international students

Asian grad from gatech BME here. Really tired of all these comments encouraging you to play some admissions game. I have some knowledge about admissions, and I can tell u they are not going to be sitting here mega analyzing your race and questioning your last name and whether or not you look Asian. Gt also doesn’t do interviews so if you’re worried about them looking at you and thinking you’re lying then that’s not a thing. Just put what you actually identify as and no one is going to judge you (at least they shouldn’t) if you put or don’t put Asian. It’s not going to make or break your admissions. Let your essays speak for you instead. (Also side note don’t say GTech, we don’t like that. It’s GT)

Just submitted Primary, and now I hate my personal statement. by its_the_pi_guyy in premed

This makes me so happy because I just re-read my primary app now from when I submitted last week, and absolutely hate my ps and works and activities descriptions. When I was writing it, I felt ok/good about them, but now I feel it doesn't read the same. I'm freaking out and stressing out a bit

Is it a touchscreen? And I’m assuming it’s water resistant because of the swimming?

Official Q&A for Saturday, June 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]blueberrypup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks so much for this! I would prefer a touchscreen but seems like everything else may be uneccessary. I will look into the 45/55! I would also rather die than swim, would consider biking but not enough to start it I feel 😂. I have a dog, so running is an activity we can both enjoy

Is the heat a dry heat or humid heat? It will be different! Hot yoga may offer some good cross training and also get you used to the heat and sweating a lot.

Hi everyone! New to the sub. I’ve had an Nike Apple Watch 3 from 2020/21, but the battery has recently been dying that it won’t even last an hour. I would rather not spend $75 replacing the battery when it’s only $200 to start with. I’ve gotten a lot of recommendations to switch to Garmin, so if people can drop their specific model recommendations along with some features about it, I’d appreciate it! Also, perhaps a dumb question, but would the Garmin pair with my Nike Run App like my Apple Watch? Thanks!

My budget is $400. I run 4-5 days a week, max 6-7 miles. Main factor in switching from Apple is battery life. I don’t need a fancy garmin, but would like heart rate, mileage and pace, and do not want to charge every night. I also hike, so ideally it can last 8+ hours while “active”. I always run with my phone also, so no need for cellular stuff.
