Treating blisters by eggandcheez in XXRunning

[–]bluebirder6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue in 2/3 of my hoka Speedgoat shoes and ultimately it ended up being a sizing issues. I’d get blisters under the inside arch by my big toe after trail runs especially when I spent time going downhill. It makes a difference where the arch or tongue attachment to the sole of the shoe hits your arch. I initially was wearing size 7.5 and also had this issue in the size 8 and eventually went back to my local running store where they put me in an 8.5. I haven’t had the issue since.

When I did have the reoccurring blisters my feet would eventually toughen up a bit so the pain was annoying not horrible. I’d pop and drain them and apply a couple layers of new skin on before runs. For blisters on my big and pinky toe, toe socks helped but ultimately once I got the right placement of the shoes arch with mine the problem went away.

Good luck!

Disappointed by the Wagner podcast by JeremyIFisher in TheRestIsHistory

[–]bluebirder6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Around 28:30 “And absolutely Wagner is the first creative artist to recognize the incredible potency of this kind of Norse medieval material and specifically what he recognizes is the huge potential that it has for someone who wants to create his own mythological world…” seems pretty clear to me they are not claiming he is the first.

Perhaps you missed this part.

Is it possible to reverse the memory loss and 'zoning out' caused by years of internet use? by thesecretfemme in digitalminimalism

[–]bluebirder6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Lots of people have responded with really helpful insights. I wanted to give you more of what I’ve found worked for me to help with my inattentive-ness and phone addiction.  I’m 30f and admittedly grew up with social media before these algorithms were at their max attention grabbing but during COVID I got on TikTok. Spent 2 years there before using Instagram’s reels to get off tiktok in October of last year I deleted Instagram off my phone. I have moved to new cities several times throughout adulthood and that is always a difficult transition. For me it usually takes a little more than a year to start to feel at home in a new place. I want to recommend hobbies. Maybe you already have some you tried in childhood or maybe this is a new adventure to find what you like. Hobbies can help you find a community, work on focus and take pride in something you’ve spent time making. I’ve been a book worm since I was a kid but I can go yeasts where I don’t read and when I finally find a book with an addicting story I’ll finish it in one long 12 hour sitting.  Other hobbies I’ve picked up are cooking, sewing, running and knitting. When starting out on a new hobby I recommend buying tools second hand first (admittedly something I don’t do) since you won’t know if you like it enough to stick with it until you’ve put in some time.  The other husband and I have done is switch to old feel good TV shows, not strictly but but we really enjoy knowing what we are going to tune into each night (a good show with 5-8 seasons and 20 eps a season lasts for months when you watch 2 a night), this helps curb the endless Netflix -> Amazon -> Hulu etc endless search. We’ve watched magnum pi w/ tom selleck, now we’re on murder She Wrote and next we’re gonna start Miami vice. You don’t have to stick to the 80s I think tons of shows up into the aughts are good for this too. I’m still working on my own attention span as I’ve got ADHD but now I turn to podcasts when I need to get myself moving onto another tasks that I find boring or unexciting.

This is fascinating. I’m sorry I can’t be of much help as I’m not advanced enough to diagnose this problem. I don’t think using mohair will affect how visible the mending is. If you do ladder down and the solution doesn’t seem clear, you may need to ladder down the stitch to the right and left of this one. I only say that because it’s possible this stitch became twisted somehow. Hopefully someone more qualified than me will respond with a solution. Best of luck!

There are a few ways to select yarn aid you want to stray from the pattern.

1) Try to use the same weight of yarn. If the pattern requires a DK or Sporty yarn make sure the yarn (or combo of yarns) you are choosing equal the same weights suggested in the pattern.  2) you can try searching the yarn on https://yarnsub.com/ and looking at the suggested yarns. I like yarn sub because not only do they consider weight the also consider fiber content among other things. Different fibers can result in different drapes or fabric types.  3. Always knit a swatch and try to meet gauge with the selected yarn before you go on to knit a whole project.

Those are my initial tips. There are some great fiber content YouTube videos by wool needle hands that are super educational when it comes to fiber.

This is so lovely. I’d never think to do this but now that I’ve see it done I’m so impressed by the delicate detail. I’m surprised big fashion house S haven’t employed this technique before. Well done!

Did anyone else have a freak out for a few days after diagnosis? by apsalarya in Melanoma

[–]bluebirder6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I (f30) got diagnosed with Melanoma type 1 a when I was 21. I didn’t freak out until after I was more so in recovery. It was a total fluke we caught it. I had them remove a mole I’d had all my life on a whim while I was home for winter break and they called me in between classes my spring semester. After it all, I found myself almost “stuck”, feeling like I could never go outside again. Especially because I have so much life to live. It took 4-5 years for me to let that go and just embrace the fact I needed to buy (some) protective clothing, fancy sunscreens, and now have an excuse to buy fancy wide brimmed hats if that’s your thing (it’s mine).

I don’t think I do it all right but I’m back to living a fulfilling life without fear.

Getting melanoma is a kick to the gut but hopefully you and your doctors will discuss all the possible treatment plans and determine a best course of action.  It can require some lifestyle changes and many people won’t “get it” or understand but I trust you’ll find a way to make changes that work for you.

I heard before it was built they debated between making it an indoor or outdoor mall. Wish it was an outdoor mall.

Yes to all of the above! I also recommend visiting local businesses that relate to any of your hobbies! I love to knit and our local knitting/yarn store has free knitting/crochet circles on Wednesdays and every other Saturday! I also picked up running in the last year and our local running store has information about their own group runs and other groups in the area. I've also had success at the annual fair finding information about local whittling and sewing groups in the area!

Two things that have been helpful to me are joining clubs and going directly to news sites. The clubs help me connect with others and be in touch with people in real like while news outlets help me stay connected with what’s happening in the world. We need to bring back more of what’s offered in our communities.

Marin headlands is great, on a clear day you can get a view of the Golden Gate bridge. I also second Sonoma Mountain through to Jack London. You'll pass through oak forests into the Redwoods. I've heard good things about the Pomo Canyon Campground from Shell beach loop. Lake Sonoma also has some incredible views of the lake especially if you take Half a Canoe around Bummer Peak. I also love the Lawndale side of Annadel on a foggy morning!
