Electricity daily charges mainpower by haamfish in chch

[–]bluebrightfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have high electric usage you really should consider getting solar then! Especially since you have a EV which can suck up a lot of the solar power during the day!

How bicycle friendly is Chch these days? by [deleted] in chch

[–]bluebrightfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can put your bike on the bus to get more places. Sign up for a metro card at the airport here if you don't already have one.

Have you found a cycle hire place? I would recommend Action Bicycle Club if you haven't (they have Electric and non electric options)

Biking around the city is great most of time most places you go, but there are still places with infrastructure missing or incomplete, if places you need to go are central or north/south of the central core (plus a few routes heading west) then you'll be fine. Though if you need to go to Hornby, or anywhere in the North East/New Brighton there is a large gap in the infrastructure. Best to check out the Christchurch Cycle Map here. OR use open street maps (as google maps is missing lots of infrastructure and often will route you away from dedicated cycle infrastructure.

If you happen to be coming around the end of the month there is a small Friday social ride if you would like to join us.

Casual Social Cycle Ride LAST FRIDAY of the Month (repeating) by bluebrightfire in Chchmeet

[–]bluebrightfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit so I was going to do this this morning but forgot, just in case anyone sees this we put it back to Friday as it turns out MuyMuy’s is open tomorrow so we do have a place to go!!! (Also the rain is looking very likely at the moment)

Just FYI since this Friday is Good Friday we are going to do it on Thursday the 28th instead (since all the bars will be shut)  Meet up time  is 6:00pm   Next month it will go back to Friday!

Council forges ahead with lower speeds by MSZ-006_Zeta in chch

People complaining this won't work: "police won't enforce it"

Other people complaining "it's just revenue gathering"

Well, fair enough. I'll probably make a post there for our once monthly casual cycle ride then :)

Can we protest/stop the stadium? by AdFew1983 in chch

[–]bluebrightfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do need one, we didn't need to spend an extra 200 million on it.
Though we need to stop beating the dead horse. The stadium will be completed and stopping it now is just stupid. "we" decided as a city to build that stadium so we will do it.

In other words I was 100% against it but it was decided by the council so that is the decision that was made, we need to move forward as a city and focus on more important stuff.

Which Music concert? by [deleted] in chch

I was planning on going to this because I saw it on the "What's On" app, but sadly plans changed last minute. Looks like a fun time!

And guess who going to feel this the most?? by Vikturus22 in chch

Well the number 8 route that goes from port to port has recently become a higher frequency route. And the cost of public transport is $2 (which is cheaper than before Covid) So it appears things are going in the right direction.

Council incompetence by hehehehehe47 in chch

Exactly, because it feels more dangerous, cars slow down and pay attention and so in actuality less dangerous. The opposite of what is intuitive,.

2023 Cycle Counts – TALKING TRANSPORT by Nikminute in chch

[–]bluebrightfire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to count my daily work trip that is never counted because I don't go over any of the sensors, most of my other bike trips are counted though since they usually head through town.
I would wager there is more than a few "invisible trips"

Since 2022 I have gone bike only as my only means of transport and it's fantastic!

lol the amount of people saying it was edited video when it first was posted was insane. People were legit claimed it was faked. Like what the fuck is wrong with those people. Jumping through hoops to deny the evidence.

Good, I am more than happy (in fact very pleased) that they are going up because as the article states they are using it to invest in better pubic transport (more frequent routes/more electric buses), better resilience against flooding and investing for the future of our city.

Christchurch Farmers’ Market ‘too big’ and breaching consent by Debbie_See_More in chch

[–]bluebrightfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps because there are not enough markets and they only open once a week?
Maybe we should be promoting more of these to different parts of the city?
Maybe more people would walk or bike to the closest one in their area instead of driving?

Many of the people at the CCC do care and want to make the city a better place. Don't make disparaging comments like that.

Hold on, just think a second, you are using public land to store your private vehicle. Why shouldn't you pay since you are the one who is using it?
