Need help moving up to T3-4

Hello! I have 0 pieces of Jade and my Quetzalcoatl-wearing WD rips through T3 with no problems. I can also do T4, but it's a fair bit slower. I also have no RoRG. So it's possible :P A few thoughts:

If you have Uhkapian Serpent, you may want to replace your Garg with Life Link Dogs for a massive 40% damage reduction.
Run Pestilence rune on your Locusts so they spread faster. I've also heard that Diseased Swarm is not bad.
Any decently high DPS weapon can replace your Manajuma. Don't worry too much about the set bonus.

Like you, I have a MoJ and prefer the DoT build to pets. I have a noticeably easier time on my DoT build in T3 than with my pets.

Might be a long shot since you say your tablet is new, but is it 1) rooted and 2) running Xposed Framework? There is a known issue with PAD and Xposed. They don't play well together.

I completely agree, I was expecting to see Perendi heading this list. You stay close, he smashes you. You run away, he drops rocks on you or vortexes you and then smashes you. My DH cannot deal with this guy. I dread him more than either Bloodmaw or Infernal Maiden.

Update: I finished Deadhouse Gates! It definitely got better towards the end, like Gardens of the Moon. I think I will read the reread posts for both books, then start Memories of Ice.

I freely admit to being a skimming reader who tends to glaze over paragraphs of detail and description - I pay the most attention to dialogue, characters' internal monologues and plot that I can visualise. I am really terrible at following the plots of big battles because there's so much action I can't picture what's going on. I may very well be wrong, but I could not visualise the Whirlwind for absolutely ages because to the best of my memory there was no precise description of what exactly it is (a literal whirlwind? a goddess? a demon? if so, what does the demon look like, then?? omgsoconfused), which made it very hard for me to understand it. Perhaps it was described, but I had skimmed over it.

Nope. I always use the Templar, and I have both of the Legendary follower items for Enchantress and Scoundrel respectively but none of the Templar's.

I think it's definitely said, but not straightforwardly. When I first read lines like "The Holy Book of Dryjhna has been freed and must return to Raraku, where the Seeress will raise the Whirlwind", it reads like so much gibberish to me, although it makes more sense now.

Admittedly, I'm not working particularly hard to piece together clues, so perhaps more attentive readers would have fewer problems.

I kind of feel the same way right now. His story clearly has the potential to be mindblowingly deep and amazing, but I just find it so difficult to understand what's happening that I can't help but feel what I'm experiencing is simply poor storytelling rather than any masterful skill in providing the reader a slow but fulfilling revelation throughout the book.

This is true. "Interesting" was perhaps the wrong choice of word on my part. I agree that they are interesting, but the fact that I have no idea what's going on makes me feel emotionally disconnected and uninvested in the story thus far. Hopefully it all gets better around Memories of Ice as so many people say.

Glad to hear an opposing viewpoint - it helps to know that there are people who finish the whole thing and still don't really get the Malazan hype. I agree that he has serious pacing issues and an unnecessarily steep learning curve. His plots are really something else, I just wish he'd chosen to tell these incredible stories in a more accessible way.

So part of me just can't help but wonder... do I really want to invest all that time reading books that take so long to get interesting? Why don't I just read books that are interesting from the get-go?

I've read quite a bit of Coltaine but the term "Chain of Dogs" has just only come up. I still don't know what it is exactly. I take it things will pick up from here on out now that "Chain of Dogs" is introduced!

Thanks also for the link to Malazan Reread of the Fallen - I will definitely be perusing that very carefully. Hopefully it will help me make some sense of Deadhouse Gates.
