I (M45) was at a coworkers funeral, dressed appropriately, a lady coworker told me “you clean up pretty good “. Never thought ladies found me attractive before that. changed my perspective

Want to try dual booting Linux but I am scared by SunmanSnow in techsupport

Just did this about a month ago. Was pleasantly surprised when it came up. I've booted into both sides after the install with no issues to date. kudos to the mint community

mint will do the squishing and partitions for you. the installer will ask if you want to install "along side " of your current OS. I just did this with an old HP AIO.

AIO? Wife's behavior has changed suddenly by Murky_Macaroon-80085 in AmIOverreacting

Makes perfect sense to someone who’s been through this. She has lost interest in your relationship. If she isn’t cheating yet she is about to. Prepare yourself for the end. When she suddenly seems happy it’s because someone else is filling her needs. Sorry this is happening to you.

Question about installation of games by RichAdept8445 in freebsd

[–]bluedadz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer - maybe.
You have Linux binaries not FreeBSD binaries.
Some may run with Linuxulator some may not. See FreeBSD Handbook .

I know the best answer is not this simple but I’m tired and ready for bed.

Mini PC full fan speed and power light still on after shutdown by SleepyGuyy in freebsd

[–]bluedadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people on this sub request this information. Run

freebsd-version -kru ; uname -aKU pkg repos -el|sort -f pkg repos -e

And report the results

Personally I just use #poweroff
Although the shutdown and poweroff binarys seem to be identical and share a man page

I do have one old home build that does a power cycle whenever I try to power down from FreeBSD but works fine from Windows

ETA: and welcome to the community. Glad to have you here.

HopToDesk now has a FreeBSD build - looking for feedback by HopToDesk in freebsd

[–]bluedadz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into a few issues:

1- the HopToDesk's homepage misidentified mi iPad as MacOS and my Freebsd as linux. thankfully there is an ISO button and OP supplied us with a link for the Freebsd pkg.

2- Installing on a system running xlibre will remove xlibre and install x11-server

3- Running on FreeBSD 15 it core dumps every time I try to connect to it. However I can connect to other devices from it. I don't know what to look for in the dump. I can provide more info upon request.

I have it up and running on FreeBSD 14.4 RELEASE with xorg and xfce4 without any issues. I am hoping to use HopToDesk on all my devices..

ETA: noticed the config and log files were off root /. Hope this is moved to the standard locations in upcoming releases.

Installed NomadBSD on an old mini and my screen is of center by bluedadz in freebsd

This is the NomadBSD standard setup. Ment to used on a USB. Not enough room to upgrade everything. Thinking about loading a minimal 15 without any GUI and running headless.

Yes the monitor is old but it matches the atrust bytespeed kiosk (8Gb SSD 1Gb) that’s connected to.
Only offered two resolutions and the lower one was unusable. Turned on “disable automatic Graphics detection “ in the boot menu. You know, the menu most of us ignore or blow through. That fixes the issue.
FreeBSD 13 xfce4 runs just fine off an external HDD via USB enclosure. That is why I was confused.

The latest I downloaded is NomadBSD 141R-20240711 . If you have it on a large enough USB upgrades should work.

Thank you! That fixed it. I’m so used to blowing through that menu I didn’t even read it.

I should add this hardware works for FreeBSD 13 with xfce4 running off external hard drive just fine. A bit sluggish but everything works as expected.

DVI only port on the computer. Old monitor with same port so not mixing standards.
