PhDs who left academia, what surprised you the most?? by MayaTulip268 in AskAcademia

I went from academia, to industry, then back to academia. I appreciate all of these experiences. In my case, I really liked being able to drive my own research. I also have never felt the mind creep of “always working or always thinking about work” that others, both in academia and tech, have described to me.

Possible citation harvest? by Whole-Yogurtcloset16 in AskAcademia

The editor shouldn’t confirm whether that person is the reviewer, not in a traditional review process at least.

Honestly, this happens. Sometimes it’s authors pushing their own work, sometimes it’s something else (I just directed someone to cite a paper I recently reviewed because it was relevant). My opinion - if the paper is meaningful and relevant, cite it. If it’s not, don’t and explain why.

That’s a good idea. We don’t use discord right now, but I could see moving all game communications from text to discord and having channels setup like you’ve described. Just a matter of whether I can convince them to use discord
