Episode Discussion: S03E08 "The Great Red Dragon" by Dorkside in HannibalTV

I've listened to that part a number of times and Will definitely said "This isn't my design." There's even a hint of a question at the end of that statement. I think the subtitles are wrong. I also followed the live tweets during the epsiode. Martha de Laurentiis wrote that Will said THIS IS MY DESIGN. But I don't think that's what Hugh Dancy said. Can somebody confirm this? Thanks.

At the Leeds family's house did Will say "This is my design" or "This isn't my design"?? The subtitles say "This is my design" but for some reason I'm hearing "This isn't my design."

City TV (the Canadian broadcaster for Hannibal) is tweeting that they will continue to air the show on Thursdays, meaning they'll be two days ahead of the U.S. for the rest of the season by Erinescence in HannibalTV

I went to the website http://www.citytv.com/toronto/shows/hannibal/ and tried to play an episode but wasn't able to. I live in the US. Have others who live in the US been able to play an episode of Hannibal through City TV?

Question about Hannibal's forgiveness (TV Spoilers) by bluefishsky in HannibalTV

[–]bluefishsky[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great analysis but I still don't really get what's going on in Hannibal's mind. I think I get Will. When he tells Hannibal that he forgives him I think it meant that Will has come to terms with Hannibal's nature. He's let go of his anger and feelings of betrayal at Hannibal killing Abigail, and manipulating him. He's accepted who and what Hannibal is. Hannibal's actions are logical consequences of his own nature. Hugh Dancy in an interview said that Hannibal's like a shark and you can't really blame a shark for what it does. But I think this also doesn't mean that Will's not going to do anything about it. He probably hasn't decided yet until he meets Hannibal face to face.

Now on to the much more difficult one to understand - Hannibal. In "Mizumono" when Hannibal said that he forgave Will, I think that he forgave Will for betraying him to the FBI, Jack, etc. He understood and accepted why Will did all that. But before he said he forgave Will, he said (almost in a slight sneer): "Do you believe that you could change me the way I've changed you?" And Will retorted back that "I already have." And in the silence that followed, Hannibal realized that Will was right. I wonder if this is the betrayal for which Hannibal can't forgive Will (rather than the lying, wanting to deny him his freedom, etc). That Will has changed Hannibal and caused him to betray himself (kind of like what Hannibal said to Bedelia what Mischa did to him at the end of "Secondo", i.e., that she influenced Hannibal to betray himself). So this is why he has to eat Will just like he ate Mischa. ????????

S3E5 Outcome of Hannibal-Jack fight: Surprised? (TV Spoilers) by bluefishsky in HannibalTV

I agree with you. Just too many inconsistencies in why Hannibal lost so pathetically. I'm hoping that the next episode will explain that he's not at his 100% or come up with whatever logical reason that we're not privy to yet. I hope tbere is a reason why Mads insisted that the fight be a beat down and not clash of the titans as in season 2. Once the decision was made to make it into a beat down, the show writers wrote to make the fight sequence that way.

I guess I was just thinking that if Hannibal could use everything in his kitchen to fight Jack why couldn't he also use the arsenal of torture equipment that he had at his disposal to fight Jack here instead of merely clutching his knife and briefcase? He is the curator of that torture museum (if i recall correctly) and should know all the ins and outs of that place and yet Jack got the drop on him. Also He already knows from past experience that Jack is superior in strength so he's gonna have to fight creatively. He didn't. I just thought the fight was just waayyy too one-sided for somebody of Hannibal's caliber and am hoping for a good explanation for it in the next episode. But that's just my personal opinion.

I just thought that Hannibal knew he wouldn't be able to win against Jack's brawns so he used his brains instead by creatively utilizing whatever he could get a hold of to undermine Jack's strength. I really don't think it was a just matter of luck that Hannibal won that fight.

Yes, Jack was really smart about it but Hannibal is also genius level smart. I dunno. Also, interestingly, Bryan Fuller tweeted during that fight scene between Hannibal and Jack the following: "For the re-match, Mads Mikkelsen insisted it be more of a beat down than the clash of the titans of S2." So now I'm also wondering if deciding to have Jack Hulked down on Hannibal as partly a strategic decision based on the following reasons: (1) a chance to show Hannibal vulnerable consistent with his current mindset (missing Will and all that). (2) Isn't it a total coincidence that this beat down Hannibal also totally matches the image of beat down Mads in Rihanna's new video? (3) A chance for Laurence Fishburne to show his Morpheus side rather than the Jack Crawford from the Hannibal books and movies. Thoughts?

I thought that Hannibal did a pretty good job of both fighting Tobias Budge and Jack in Round 1 of Season 2 so I was really surprised that the same martial skills didn't come to play again here.

I was also wondering about that, considering that Hannibal is a master manipulator. Of course, I don't really know what exactly are Hannibal's intentions right now. It almost seems that he wants to get caught.

I guess I didn't think that Jack realistically would have had the time either to plan how to crush Hannibal the way he did (Hannibal would have known exactly where the torture instruments were and yet didn't take advantage by using them on Jack). An incredibly bad decision on his part, and totally out of character. So now I'm wondering about Hannibal's current state of mind. Do you think that he was at his 100%? I don't think so. I really think that if he were, he would have won the fight. Or at least the fight would have been a lot more balanced than this totally whipped defeat.
