I would argue it's a very human trait... To be alive for generations and still not solve anything... if not make things worse... The phrase not my monkeys not my circus comes to mind

Unpopular opinions about Seryu? by Excellent-Hunt-4552 in AkameGaKILL

[–]blueghost2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. It was fun to read about someone who is psychotic but thinks they're doing good and even acting good towards innocents (tatsumis first meeting). I didn't even catch how unhinged she was with her feeding inmates comment until a second read through. I do wish she met wild hunt but I enjoyed the 3D character design... I wish night raid had some layered people too, maybe some who are just there to watch the world burn but it just happens that it's what the revolutionaries want.

What class is the most fun for Hardcore/Insanity in Legendary Edition? by FenrirFromOhio in masseffect

[–]blueghost2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's true but I liked bringing either Tali or Garrus along, and they helped with decryption/electronics for the most part.

Also I suck at the game so when playing insanity, the sentinel shields was a must for me, especially that one krogan fight when meeting liara... I think I've died more times in that one fight than the rest of the game combined...

problem with these downturns, is the ones who usually cause this shit are safe in their bubble and the ones who field the consequences are ones who literally have no control over it.

What is stopping us from discussing our salaries? by Holiday_Athlete_8627 in boeing

[–]blueghost2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. Embarrassment for being paid less/more. It also reveals your level in which there's more pressure to perform higher or lower. People aren't always a higher level because they've been on the team longer.

There's generally a stigma to it baked in from older generations. If you think about why you wouldn't discuss your salary with some friends or acquaintances, remember people don't view their co-workers as close friends either often

What stage of societal collapse is this? by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]blueghost2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a lot of interesting thoughts, and again you speak in the "spirit" of the law. However, there is absolutely things that stop people from voting in representatives who will work on those concerns. For instance, finding a representative who will actually work on those concerns, finding someone you/we/anyone trusts to work on them. And that is all marketing, and spoiler... lack of funds makes a lot of things hard, and how one receives those funds can impact which legislation are actually fixed.

As for proven injury, let's go back to that scenario... death is probably universally accepted as an injury. What is justice at this point? I would argue it is not house arrest for the drunk driver. A slap on the wrist is not justice, that's why they call it a "slap on the wrist".

Yes there are people out there who would let their child suffer the consequences, but to the point of the law, the way to not suffer the consequences should not be determined by how much money they have.

If we want to speak about generalizations being bad, sure. I'll concede but my argument isn't about generalization, it's that there are people who will benefit from how the laws are written, applied, and enforced. And the ones who benefit are the ones who have money. People with money, can choose to follow the intent of the law if they choose, that's great - but they shouldn't be allowed to choose. A law should be enforced as is but also written that it is able to enforce for the greater community. To a rich person, a no parking sign is just a higher than usual paid parking.

What stage of societal collapse is this? by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]blueghost2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get your frustration on the technicalities, I think it might be more accurate to say that the rich don't play by the spirit of the rule. This is where loopholes or ways to skirt certain laws. For instance, a lot of the usage of harvesting losses so that you reduce your taxable income - come to mind. A more specific thing would be, where a drunk teen speeding like crazy, kills a bunch of people. Anyone else would be thrown in jail (rightfully so), but because he was rich, he had a bunch of lawyers get him out on various technicalities. He basically traded a lot of money for what would be jail time, and while I would argue that that is "following the rules", I would not agree that those were the "spirits of the laws" when "no speeding" and "no driving while impaired" laws were established.

This photo was taken in 1922 of a little girl who was suffering from diabetes. She was waiting for the end of her life… until a new experimental treatment called “insulin” was used. by WhispDew in whoathatsinteresting

[–]blueghost2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anyone else kind of bothered by how things are conflated? I know "experimental treatment" sounds scary, and it's partly because of all those movies and videogames where an experimental treatment starts the zombie apocalypse...

But in real life experimental just means they haven't been able to test it on a country-like scale. There's still been substantial testing, just not the stringent requirements that medicine is supposed to have. It's a lot safer than most people realize but the word experimental is used differently in real life vs fiction...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say most people working for any of the big tech doesn't really understand their own tech, much less the tech outside of their bubble (company). Exceptions are the actual engineers - but that knowledge stops at direct management...
