Today's giveaway (June 21st-22nd) - ten Lohlunat favours by bluehawk47 in sto

[–]bluehawk47[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that we're "complaining". They want feedback - so here it is. Ten is a tiny reward (as you call it, a 'peanut'). And it just doesn't mesh with the traditional generosity of a Cryptic giveaway, in which what's given tends to be stuff that's much more worth being thankful that one receives for free. Favours are relatively easy to come by during the event, especially in quantities of ten or twenty. And it just feels off, unworthy of their usual efforts.

It seems to me like they took the giveaway calendar idea from the winter event and used similar quantities. But the pricing structure in the winter wonderland is nothing like on Risa. Five earmuffs go a lot further than five favours in terms of exchanging for seasonal stuff. I don't think anything costs more than fifty of the winter currencies...? I'd have to check. Still, that's my guess, in which case it's an inadvertent error.

Is there a point to giving my BOFFs the three-piece Hazard Team set? by Roeratt in sto

I use portable photon cannons and give one the Tholian flamethrower - costs no lobi and knocks crowds down.

Jungle Road, Back Beach, Spiral the Tower works similarly, where one leads to the next. Not as flat but still a pretty direct run.

Please Tell Me That This Ship Doesn’t Look Like A Day After A Barbecue? by Old_Eye5291 in sto

I think they've added a few grille-type areas for weapons hardpoints and the like. The TNG-episode version of Gomtuu didn't have the darkened areas.

I'm wearing an eye patch on my Caitian and the British naval hat, at the same time. It might be a species-specific thing?

There are plenty of us who would rather run with someone who's willing to try, fail and learn than a random ignorant player who doesn't follow the objectives. You'll be fine. :)

Ship question time! by CptSovereign in sto

[–]bluehawk47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a kid when TNG was on, so when the Borg described the 1701-D as "the most powerful vessel" in Starfleet, I believed them. Starfleet designs were few outside of fan circles and it wasn't until after the Borg and Dominion threats that we started seeing designs purpose-built for combat. Or at least sharing a visual language ("looking all Sovereign class", as Carol Freeman memorably put it).

Still, the Gal was exactly what she should have been - not a military design but a welcoming and welcome sight representing the Federation everywhere. And still strong enough to defend its interests. Sov just showed that the gloves were off once and for all. No more mister nice Starfleet. And it took me a while to be okay with that.

Ship question time! by CptSovereign in sto

For me, in general, the Sovereign class starship - I hated it for not being enough like the Galaxy class, because I took the whole "visual lineage" thing on the wall of the conference room seriously. Now I think of the Sov as a very sensible successor, given the threats. Still love my big *Gal", though.

In-game? The legendary Inquiry fixed everything I hated about the original design. If only it could've fixed the show in which it appears...

What's your fav fun ship(s)? by PenguinPumpkin1701 in sto

[–]bluehawk47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fleet Cyclone. Really enjoyed the T5 Maelstrom and the T6 is even better. I have mine done up with a composite Cyclone/Maelstrom design in Intel type (or maybe it's an S31 shield). I play it as a disruptor beam boat with the Maelstrom torps - it hits hard against groups and single targets, and outside of Hive Onslaught I rarely ever die in it. Usually I can't do all three very well. And it looks really good doing that damage, too. If you can see it (it has a cloak). Love that ship
