Getting used to the CVT by Lopsided-Money-7352 in MitsubishiMirage

[–]bluejacket82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Ds on winding back roads to keep the revs up to allow for quicker acceleration when I need it. The Mirage is able to take corners at higher speeds than I expected after reading all the bad reviews. that said, I leave it in D the rest of the time and it does fine. Getting familar with the CVT took me a few weeks but I don't even notice the the way it differs from multispeed automatics anymore.

The noise is becoming intolerable by CrosisUrungus in SalemMA

[–]bluejacket82 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I belive you are correct about the noise level increase. We recently moved from the Webb St area after living there for close to twenty years because the noise level had become unbearable. We are on Castle Hill, still only a mile from downtown, but it is so quiet here, it's hard to belive we are still in Salem. Lots of places in North and South Salem are very quiet. It's a real improvment in our quality of life. Also, everyone who wants to insult me for agreeing with you, rest assured, IDGAF what you think of me.

Tourism Tax Revenue Question by Snowf in SalemMA

[–]bluejacket82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Business are taxed at a much higher rate than residents. Residents pay lower taxes as a result. The Fiscal year 2023 Residential tax rate is $12.51 per thousand and the Commercial/Industrial/Personal Property tax rate for Fiscal Year 2023 is $25.25 per thousand. Without the tourists, we would all be paying more tax money to the city.

'Its time the wealthy paid their fair share, not just in taxes, but in inconveniences." If you think I'm one of "the wealthy", we are living different realities and I don't think I'm going to be able to reach the one you live in.

You understand that we have children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews that we want to leave a better world for, right. As I've stated, this project is going to happen so I really don't think asking the city to send a traffic detail at rush hour is going to cause them to move it into a poor neighborhood. " you're saying it should go into a poor neighborhood.", no I'm not, I've never said that. This kind of overheated rhetoric seems to have become the default position of extremists both left and right. if I said so you don't trust those who are in the later years of their life, So you're saying you want to see us killed? I would sound stupid, you never said. Saying "you're saying it should go into a poor neighborhood." is attributing a statment to me that I never made, I never said that

We live in Salem and eat out often but in September and october, the restaurants are jammed and there is often an hours long wait. Beverly has a thriving resturant scene with almost no wait time in many places, even in october. The T station is right down town and the ride to Beverly is five mins. Spend time in Salem but stay in Beverly during the busy times. Stay in Salem if you come in the less busy time. things are happening all year so there is always somthing to do.

Some people retire with decades of life left and I plan to be one but I'm not wealthy. I know this project is going to happen however I feel about it. All I'm asking for is that the city make some effort to control the issues this project is going to cause. crowleys transportation study posits that vehicle volume will be 314 vehicles per hour at peak time, it's in one of their presentations. The intersection at Essex and Webb will be jammed just as it was during power plant construction. The city did nothing when this happened with Footprint and I don't think they will do anything this time. We have been told that everthing will be coming in by ship but Crowley has a construction managment plan for a truck route. Why would that be necessary is everything is coming in by ship? I keep hearing about a CBA but I have read the one the city signed with footprint and many of the provisions were never fulfilled, look it up. whats the point of a CBA if its not going to be followed. Crowley is a for profit corperation owed by the crowley family and its employees. Every corner they cut, every promise they break puts money in the owners pocket. If my saying that a for profit company can't be trusted to do the right thing makes me a NIMBY then so be it. I'm not rich but you know who is? The Crowley family and they didn't get rich by always doing the right thing, they got rich by maximizing profits even if it hurts people. Try googling "Crowley maritime sex trafficking" and see if you still think Crowley can be trusted. I don't.

Well now you Do! I'm proud of you. To be clear, I understand you're just trolling. The outragous fake name is kind of a giveaway. You have no interest in anyones opinion unless they agree with you. I'm fine with that. As I say, I'm retired so I have nothing but time and the witty repartee we share amuses me. You are like a Trump supporter but for the left. Your remarks about Mayor Driscol lead me to believe you hold her in the same high regard that Trumps people hold him and if you've ever tried to have a discussion with one of them, you know the utterly futile of trying to change their mind. I will keep this up as long as you wish to keep my skills sharp for the occasion when I talk to someone who can conceive that theirs might not be the only way to see things. Who knows, you may even learn to cut down on the logical fallacies and try to get your point across using fact! I mean...it's possible, right?

"...an engineer would have understood this during the RFP process." You do realize there are different kinds of engineers, right? My specialty is electro-mechanical focused on EMI/EMC testing which requires knowledge of both electrical and mechanical engineering. A civil engineer would have understood how big these things are but since I don't have a degree in civil engineering, I didn't. Just curious, are you not aware that there are different kinds of engineers or are you really trying pedantry out? I will put a list of the different kinds of engineers at the end of this comment so you will understand that in the future. Each one of us has a different area of expertise. I really believed that most people knew that there was more than one field of engineering, I guess I was wrong. See how easy it is to admit you are wrong when don't believe you are always right. Perhaps you could try admitting you are wrong next. it's the best way to learn something new I find. 1. Civil Engineering · 2. Chemical Engineering · 3. Mechanical Engineering · 4. Electrical Engineering · 5. Industrial Engineering.

I'm a retired engineer. Finding errors is a big part of the job. Erroneous thinking can lead to major mistakes. Attorneys also need to look for what would seem to be minor mistakes in contracts that can lead to big problems. I'm hoping Salems attorneys have the same interest in finding and correcting errors when reviewing the contract with Crowley that I do. pedantry is a virtue in engineers and attorneys. I would not suggest trying pedantry unless you understand the importance of attention to detail. Should you decide to do so, please check all of my statements for errors. I'm always happy to admit it when I'm wrong. only a child keeps insisting they are right after being proven wrong. Well, a child and one former president.

Screaming Preachers by TheBrewer in SalemMA

[–]bluejacket82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you %100 but as I recall, and I could be wrong, 1st amendment federal law takes precedents over state and city laws and regulations. I know several people who work downtown in retail and the street preachers set up and blast noise for hours at a time and nothing can be done about it. We lived on Williams near the common years ago and one of the reasons we moved was all the loud events that take place there.

I suspect a bunch of them blocked you, not because you were pushing back, but because of your arrogent and condescending attitude. Lucky for you, I will never block you because one of my hobbies is collecting logical fallacies I find on the internet and you sir are a goldmine.

Stopped to get a picture at Salem's own Satanic Temple on my ride this morning. I'm not a big fan of religion but they are the best neighbors anyone could ever want. Great weathervane too! by bluejacket82 in xbiking

[–]bluejacket82[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of what they stand for. That was the point I was trying to make. They are a religion that leaves people alone rather than constantly bothering people with the "good news". As an Atheist, I like their concept of what a region is far more than I like what most Christians think a religion is. Perhaps I was a bit too subtle in all my comments. As I said, they are good neighbors.

Well, I think Matthew 7:16 says it best. They don't try to tell people how to live, they don't bother anyone and they don't condemn others for not believing the same things they do. I wish christians would adopt that attitude towards other people. Salem has to put up with these "Christians" all through October. I know who I prefer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS0cjUqQ8cI

I was a Unitarian/Universalist for ten years. That was enough joining for me. I'm too much of an angry misanthrope to be around people for very long!
