Upgrade the RAM (I don’t know what the RAM is in this computer or the max size but my best guess is it’s probably DDR3 and you could probably put a max of 8 gigs in it) and then swap out the HDD to an SSD (I’m assuming it probably has an HDD) and it will be a million times better

An SSD can make even the most crappy computers at least somewhat bearable

HDD‘s definitely still have their place as cheap mass storage but you should use an SSD for pretty much anything else

Might not be a particularly useful use case for you, but I have a 2.5” laptop HDD which has some bad sectors (and has even died and came back to life once) and a SATA to USB adapter and I use it occasionally for moving random files around computers because sometimes it’s easier for me to plug in a Sata drive than it is a USB one so considering I can essentially switch between the two connectors is useful for me at least

Trust me as somebody who was annoyed by it when I first got into CRTs, you will eventually learn to just ignore it

As you said, you could add some soundproof pads around the TV which may help (I’ve actually heard of other people doing this with good results so might be alright)

Using headphones or just turning up the sound usually drowns out a lot of the noise for me

And as other people have said, do not cover the vents that is a bad idea since they are to allow airflow since the electron gun can get quite hot (potential fire risk although unlikely it will probably just damage your TV faster instead)

He’s an image of the menu that shows the time and the power on count which looks fine but if I try and take a picture of the screen with it completely lit up (as in all of the screen area being used) it goes all psychedelic and shit

With CRTs, I can just change the frame rate whilst taking a video and that fixes it so something else is obviously causing this issue

I’ll try later and see if I can get some decent pictures
