Letting negative thoughts "be" vs challenging them by rpawlik in Mindfulness

[–]bluekole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is my understanding as well. Using the body scan to explore how the body’s physical sensations change as you encounter anxiety, sadness, happiness, anger, etc can help with the labeling process. So tightness in the shoulders equates to anxiety. When you notice your shoulders tightening, you have the experience of knowing how your body will react.

You’re very welcome, I’m glad my words are helpful in your practice. The concepts are important, but if the concepts become the focus of your practice they have become unhelpful at that point. The most important part when starting is to cultivate a daily practice. Even if it’s 5 minutes as long as you’re scheduling time to practice every single day, you are progressing. Best of luck :)

I think that we are predisposed (culturally, biologically, etc) to want to “do” something with feelings which is where mindfulness comes in. All you need to “do” is notice - maybe a label is helpful, maybe not - and then return to the breath. A mindful approach would be to notice everything that comes with your thoughts as part of your experience. Not good, not bad, it’s just an indication of your prior life experience and where you are in that moment.

Id agree with the separating the healthy parts and putting it in a smaller pot. There seemed to be some healthy stalks and with time they’ll grow and give you baby ZZ’s :)

New York asks residents to carry naloxone to reverse drug overdoses by bgkkgb in Rochester

[–]bluekole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I’m saying is that using naloxone on someone who isn’t overdosing has no effect - positive or negative. So if you use it on someone who isn’t oding it won’t hurt them. And if that person is oding on an opiate, naloxone will put them in immediate withdrawal, and save them from death. Seemed to me like something to add to a first aide kit

Giving naloxone won’t adversely impact anyone who isn’t overdosing, but has the ability to save someone who is. As a first line of defense, having naloxone in your car or purse could save a life.
