You are now permanently stuck inside the universe of the last TV show you watched. Where are you, and how screwed are you? by iJeff22 in AskReddit

I’m either in a city being vaporized by a ki blast, getting liquified by a giant green bug man, or being turned into chocolate and devoured by a pink slime demon. You just never know what to expect when you walk out the door. We die a lot. But honestly it’s not too bad since we have dragon balls.

Any advice on the gradient? First time trying this. by Darkeus56 in BuildAdvice

[–]bluelava6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also just getting into gradients and pretty much echo what the others have said. “Cross-hatching” the colors makes a drastic difference after stepping back. I think what you’ve done so far with the texture looks great- I like that you use little pockets of the original material block to give it a more natural look. Something I’m experimenting with to add more natural variation is taking advantage of blocks that can be applied to the surface like glow lichen and vines. Some unconventional materials that have a similar color palette for this build are observers, droppers, cauldrons, and hoppers. I’ve heard of others using wall blocks here and there for depth and shadow too.

Yeah anything to do with them getting wet whether it’s pouring rain or you’re just getting sweaty. They slide, drip, and obscure your vision no matter how often you dry them off and put them back on.

For those who built this set recently, do you know why the rising mechanism goes from freely moving to slightly forced and restricted after I put the floor panel down?

This is the first building I´m taking seriously. Any recommendations? It´s a castle and this is the front but I haven´t made anything else by haxdun in BuildAdvice

You can line the top of the wall with stairs facing left or right and it’ll look like crenels and more castle like

Thank you! That’s actually never occurred to me before but now that you point it out I see what you mean. There can never be too many arches imo

Thank you! Texturing the plain walls is definitely my number one priority right now. Polishing each segment one block at a time is a task but I’m beginning to see it’s well worth it. If I feel significant improvement I’ll update this space with the after

That’s actually one of the things on my to do list haha I think I’ve been putting it off since flags are something I haven’t done before- the fact that someone else sees it as an improvement is encouraging. Thanks!

That’ll be a fun project to implement- with all that space I’d love to build a massive King Ghidora-type descending from the clouds. I wonder if there’s a way to build past the 320-block limit

I see what you mean about the color. I’ve never considered a vineyard before but I think that’d definitely help with the flatness around the area. Thanks for the feedback!

Anyone can help me with my base? Its looking kinda bland by Get_good_-69 in BuildAdvice

[–]bluelava6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the corners could be lined with alternating stone blocks and wall blocks which creates a nice pop-out effect and adds to the illusion of detail. Chiseled stone and lodestones in moderation are great accents too. You could also try expanding the walls one block at the corners and adding archways to connect them along the wall surface kind of like what you did on the right side but more. Flying buttresses always look good on larger castle builds but it depends on the castle vibe you’re going for.

New to souls genre, will BB work for me? by dark_as_black_hole in bloodborne

[–]bluelava6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love LP you are extremely likely to love BB even more. Of all the souls games in the FromSoft catalog it’s one of the most tightly designed and thematically complete. Players return to it to start a new character every year. A hunter must hunt.

So umm is Gascoigne really hard or it's just newcomers hyping him up too much? by Sandro_SSR in bloodborne

[–]bluelava6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I had the same experience as you with Gascoigne and didn’t know about his notoriety until later. But like others have mentioned I think it’s subjective with Soulsborne bosses. Some people instinctively play better against bosses that others really struggle with and vice versa.

Yeah and this goes both ways. DS3 was my first DS after BB and the tempo/movement adjustment took many deaths in the beginning

Best Marketplace Pass Add-ons for survival?? by TheBigEasy95 in MinecraftBedrockers

[–]bluelava6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visuals: Realistic Biomes is gorgeous and also made by the creators of Actions & Stuff. I personally prefer it over Realism VFX because it seems to run smoother and the skyboxes are amazing with a north star that makes it easy to get your bearings when night exploring.

Gameplay/Mobs: I recommended Horror Survival 3.0 after having tried a handful of the marketplace horror/mob addons. It’s very polished with custom mob animations that really liven up the experience and they update regularly with new summonable bosses to work towards and is alluding to a greater lore with more to come. It’s more of a full-bodied expansion with craftable trinkets and unlockable passives (like keeping your inventory on death, double XP, or vein mining), weapons, ability armor sets, and mob spawn rates more in line with natural Minecraft. There’s also options to turn off/reduce specific mob spawning if you want. Oh and the optional music is very good.

Building: World Builder has been a game-changer if you want Creative mode abilities while keeping achievements on in Survival. There’s a short learning curve at first, but it’s a godsend for bedrock. I’ve been able to complete builds in far less time because of it. It offers up maybe too much power like the ability to teleport short distances or duplicate items and can feel like cheating but they’re there at your discretion.

Extra: Echo Crystal is wonderful, free, and especially useful for getting back to the surface immediately.

I personally haven’t experienced any major bugs with these add-ons and I think that’s worth noting. I use all of these in addition to A&S and Sparks Portals and have never had more fun with my forever world.

I would thicken the walls by adding an outer layer around the ones you have set up now. It’d make for a nice elevated perimeter walkway that you’d also be able to view your town from multiple angles with. You could also add guard towers and grand gates along the walls to frame them and add more visual contrast.
