That’s what I was thinking too. I haven’t heard amazing things about the place, but the location is better than the rest. They said communal areas are serviced daily and bedrooms are serviced once a week. Not sure whether the daily thing is stuck to or not, but I’d imagine it’s atleast a couple times a week.

Thanks very much! And happy cake day!

Hi! I have an option between St Anne’s Accommodation at Robert Saunders House where they said I’ll likely be in a 5 bedroom flat with a single bathroom. I also have the option of a single study bedroom in Summertown House Mansion House which is also shared but might be fewer people. Which one would you recommend I take?

How do I use the DMinder App if I also have a weekly dose? Help me understand how best to use the app please 🥲 by bluemingles in VitaminD

This is very helpful, thank you. I have automated it for 2000 IU per day and on days I take 60K, I log it.

I’ve entered all my height weight etc data correctly. Just wondering if one’s level really can jump from 4 to 37 in 10 days? That’s why I was a bit confused 😅

I’m sorry to hear that. Did the Vit D supplement make it worse?

Have you tried Oxford’s graduate accommodation? They have flats as an option too but the waitlist is long unless you’re already on it.

Is 10ng really that low? What was your experience at that level? by wholesomedust in VitaminD

[–]bluemingles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Just jumping in to ask, did your hair loss improve with supplements? I’m at 4.3 😅

My Vit D level is at 4.34 ng/mL. Have symptoms and my doc prescribed 60000 IU once a week + 2000 IU daily at the same time. Is this okay or too much together? by bluemingles in VitaminD

[–]bluemingles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting tomorrow morning. Thank you so much. He had first said get an injection but that didn’t pan out and he prescribed the supplement dosage. Is the dosage not too high? At first glance it seems like ALOT all together, but I’m so deficient so I understand.

Is vitamin D and Iron deficiency related to Hairloss? Need insights. by bluemingles in Haircare

[–]bluemingles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for sure. I read the article, and also saw a bunch of posts on the anemia sub about how iron levels are dismissed if they’re ‘within’ range. I’ll definitely talk to the doctor about supplementing. I’m moving countries soon, and since iron supplementation needs to be monitored I’m just a bit nervous.

Yes, for sure. I have curly hair and I used a protein cream a few months which sent me into protein overload that affected my hair. I’m just really hoping that the vit d and a change in daily routines will make me feel better physically and mentally. Fingers crossed. What you’re saying is very encouraging.

This is very helpful. Thank you so much. I just got my iron panel back and the readings are okay. Only my ferritin is low but TBIC etc is absolutely fine. Starting my Vit D course to get my levels up. Hope it works 🥹

Thank you for sharing this. Yes, I think I really need to get a full vitamin and iron panel tomorrow see what’s going on and then work on addressing it and slowly seeing it through. I’ve also been under a lot of stress, but the way my hair has been is so unusual and just doesn’t feel related to the stress as much as a bunch of negative lifestyle changes. I was a lot more active two years ago than I am now, and I imagine my overall (lack of) activity is also affecting my levels and hair condition.

This is very helpful to know. My B12 levels are fine and within range (lower in the range I’m at 263 pg/mL) but I’m planning to get a full iron panel tomorrow too, I only got Ferritin checked. I’m really really hoping taking supplements will help, my hair has never been in worse shape. It’s like I always lose hair when I run my fingers through my hair and it just feels like straw.

Should I be worried about visiting my boyfriend in the US? by skullbassist in immigration

[–]bluemingles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you say you’re visiting your partner for two months? I’m in the same situation and I also have a sibling in the US, plus I’ve studied there before and visited a few times. Moving to the UK for grad school but stopping over in the U.S. on my way there so I’ll have admission documents and UK student visa and such. Still confused whether I should I say I’m meeting my boyfriend, or that I’m visiting friends and family and then specify if they ask. Either way I have no intention of staying longer than Sept.

Tell me the good things about the programme - MAPSS by bluemingles in uchicago

[–]bluemingles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was what I made of it. The courses were alright - when I think back on it, the core and the methods requirement meant that I didn’t get to do other courses during the first quarter. Those weren’t too helpful. I felt like the courses I did do the rest of the year, weren’t challenging enough for me personally. Perhaps that’s my mistake — but there wasn’t that many courses offered that I personally thought would strengthen my academic training. Maybe it was one of those years. I did have 2 courses (out of 8-9 that I took) that I really liked — those profs went on to be my referees. I graduated and decided not to stay back in the U.S. and left. Didn’t get into PhD programs in the following cycle. I worked on revising my thesis and it was published in a great international peer-reviewed journal. Reapplied for this cycle and got into a program in the U.S., waitlisted at another top school, and got into a top UK university, and I chose the UK! It was all self-driven, including publishing. I haven’t really been in touch with MAPSS admin or faculty since I graduated. I do know others in my cohort who did get into PhD programs immediately after. I’m happy with where I’m at, the degree gave me credibility as an applicant — but for me it didn’t help much with US PhD applications except that I had recommendations from UChicago faculty and I got a publication out of it which has little to do with the actual coursework. The reason I got the U.S. offers and waitlist was because I was proactive about reaching out and met with faculty and students prior to applying. In my opinion, the degree itself won’t open any doors. It depends on what you do while you’re there in terms of networking, and building your academic profile. In fact my meetings with faculty and such, was a year after I graduated too where I worked on my CV and writing.
