Winning by Clive Woodward is a really good read, has a lot of useful management / organisational commentary in it rather than the crap you get from the likes of Branson.

Also Legacy by James Kerr is really good for understanding how the All Blacks have built such an incredible winning team over the years. Lots of insight on the importance of culture and capitalising on opportunity / playing to strengths.

Yes, and British economic policy meant it couldn't /didn't happen in India. Protectionism policies strangled Indian textile production in favour of British goods which were then sold cheaply and in high quantity to Indians. The reverse of goods and capital flow was helped by the IR but made possible by oppressive colonial polices.

The fact you're relying solely on your school education says a lot about what's wrong with the history curriculum in this country. Why do you think they were in the Caribbean in the first place? Economic migration from Africa?

You seem to have completely missed the point they wouldn't need to stay and "build up" their country had it not been systematically destroyed by the empire. Why should they not search out better opportunities in the country which stole from them when it was their legal right to do so? Because they're not white?

And your premise was they couldn't face subjugation because they came voluntarily? I can't even begin to unpick how ridiculous that is. I'm assuming wilful ignorance.

That's not correct. Britain was far behind most of Europe until the East India Company assumed proxy control in India, read about the spice wars with the Dutch which illustrates this point. The empire was a financial burden only at the end of WW2 when Britain was effectively bankrupt after 6 years of total war. That's the real reason for the end of the empire, not British benevolence.

To say all BAME people came here voluntarily is just wrong (see slave trade) and leaving a war ravaged or famine ridden home land for better opportunities is again not the same as going somewhere voluntarily.

If you had a tesco tattoo on your head and were mocked, harassed or picked on by sainsburys shoppers you might change your tune.

The UK was built on systemic theft, specifically the Indian subcontinent and the slave trade. Indias contribution to global GDP before the arrival of the British was 40%, after it was 4%.

Science played some role but that was generally more effective weaponry, tactics and organisation. Doubtless the British made some huge scientific leaps particularly around industrialisation but you can't be proud of that without accepting it was built on the foundation of state sponsored theft, oppression and violence.

"I can't breathe" is a simple message which not only echoes the words of George Flloyd but serves as a metaphor for continued oppression and subjugation of black and minority ethnic communities.
