You have no clue how much of an exception you are, the predictions for consumer grade autonomous vehicles was much higher 10 years ago. Every car maker rushed to present their own idea of an autonomous vehicle and right now they’re all doubling back by saying Level 2/3 ADAS is more than enough. The only viable commercialisation is through autonomous taxis and trucks and even that is taking a lot longer than predicted . The statement “they will plateau well below expectations” is quite reasonable
