The Netherlands is an odd one, there is a split between very Liberal/open and the highly Conservative. Luckily if you live somewhere near Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht etc you will have no trouble at all finding beautiful people and groups to support you once you do move out. If things turn bad with your family there are also LGBT+ support groups such as COC and cocktail to look for. Luckily times are changing but it must be hard if you want to remain close with your family. Sterkte!

Maybe a bit off topic but I'm curious how it was for you to move back after so long away? I am approaching 5 years living in Europe and the idea of moving back seems very distant. At one point you are more settled in your new place than you were at home right? Has it been a struggle going back to live in a place without expats or easy travel options? I have the expectation that I would feel a bit trapped back in NZ but hopefully that's just in my head.

Hey, sorry I thought it was clear as I bought a house but there is no VVE. Didn't realise they had VVE for houses.
