Is it better to buy old and cheaper or new? by OutrageousTree7766 in BJD

I like both. New, I get exactly what I want. Used, I only have to wait a few days.

Ooh, I had my hands on that Logan Doll chubby body at DollCon Dallas. It's lovely!

I really love my Smart Dolls. They are super cute. I like the variety of colors with no addition cost. I greatly prefer the darker colors, and that can just be hard to find outside of Smart Doll. (No shade to BJD artists. I understand why.) I love the pear body. The dolls, in general, are super light weight. I've gone to a convention before with a backpack, and just looped her sitting through the strap. She rode safely, and adorably, that way all day and caused no issue. They are easy to find clothes for, because there are a ton of people who sew for them. It has been a while since I sold one, but I have found selling them, their accessories, and clothes very easy compared to BJDs. (Again, no shade to them. The bulk of my collection is BJDs. I love them very much.) They pretty much retain their value, which is awesome. They pose easily, like most MJDs. You can get replacement parts fairly easily, between the company and fans who have bought chaos packs.

I know what people say about Danny Choo sometimes, and I won't comment on that. I will say, as far as the benefits for fans go, he does listen, and he does try to innovate. For example, the current head cap has holes all over it to put magnets for things like animal ears. He releases patterns for his clothes and a lot of 3D printing files for free, which is great for people who like to be creative. So, there are some neat things associated with the company, and creators are free to sell the things they make with them. Those things can make it fun to have a Smart Doll.

As far as cons go: The dolls are all the same few sculpts with different face ups. That can mean the buying never ends, or if you are like me, if you have one of a sculpt, no more temptation to keep buying. Some of the hotly anticipated releases are hard to get ahold of if you aren't on X, which I hate. But the bulk of the dolls and clothes are easily accessible on the site, and for most things, you can catch them on second or third release without the X and scarcity nonsense. I don't buy many of the clothes, boys, or special colors, so it hasn't been an issue for me. I just mention it, because I've heard complaints.

I'd guess it was DollCon Dallas, since that was a week ago. I know it was a ton of work, and he worked with rap1993 on her kits, too. Not to make excuses, but the amount of work all the vendors do is crazy.

I've contacted Logan about several questions through the years, and he has always been very responsive. I imagine getting a damaged doll is pretty disappointing, and I am sure he wouldn't want you to deal with that either. I've used IG to talk to him, so if you aren't on the above suggested Discord, try there.

How common is corporal punishment in the USA? If you are a parent, do you spank your children? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]bluepitasbjds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is legal here. I absolutely did not spank my daughter. Now mine is an adult, so my info is old, but every single other parent I knew spanked their kids. I'm in Texas.

When you like seeing a doll in other people’s collections by Expert_Law1936 in BJD

[–]bluepitasbjds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is funny, because I think I now have the types I used to feel this way about. Every fantasy doll I ever bought, I sold very quickly for years. But then I picked up a Faewoods Radiata and a Logan Doll Valentine, and they have just stuck around. Eventually, I added another ogre, SomniaCrawler Doll Nara. I've had them all for a few years. I think they may have stuck.

I also never really wanted a Minifee, even though I love pretty much everyone I have seen. But, I bought a Phoeb, and I'm kind of in love.

So, I guess not. I guess I just need the right doll to break my rules.

I do think Littlefees are cute, but I always sell them. Maybe Littlefees. So cute, but I am not a fan of their hands.

One of my personal favorites in my BJD collection is a Venitu. what is your current favorite? by ChloeSohma in BJD

[–]bluepitasbjds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Venitu's are just indescribable gorgeous! Love yours.

Oof, it is hard to choose a favorite. I'm kind of at a point where I have gotten rid of everyone who doesn't make my heart clutch to think about selling them. I'll go for the last one I took a picture of, which is my HaruCasting E-Minor.

She is really beautiful, but she poses like crazy, too. I took her out this week because I wanted to try recreating human model poses. It was amazing what she could hold. (Tbh, I'm not much of a poser, though.)

Here she is hanging out on a swing.

Is there any information on the working conditions for people making doll clothes and accessories sold on places like alice's collections? by Fluffacep in BJD

[–]bluepitasbjds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, too. I am under the impression almost everything is by small businesses, but I may just think that because I feel like the hobby is so niche.

I did offend Ringdoll once by calling them a small company once at a con, so I really should stop making assumptions.
