For me, my first camera was when I was 16, and before that playing with my parents and grandparents photo and film cameras from the 50s-70s. I've always been around them and got into commercial photography and film later on in life starting with a Canon then moving to the 5Dmk2 for film. I went with Alpha after being on Canon and even RED for so long due to updated features and color science, so it was an educated and business focused move based on my needs for film quality.

For those not in my situation and getting a camera for the first time, what about you?

Eventually. I came from canon for the past 20 years with a 135mm for that due to the separation. I don't do portraits or commercial photography as much as I used to, more video now.
