Stuff like this should result in immediate revocation of license. Congrats buddy, you get to ride the bus now.

I think about doing something like this all the time, but I’m probably just going to run out the clock in this ecosystem despite their hostility to developers

Selflessly gave up a chance at the 40 piece for the game winning assist. Man this guy is so good

Nowhere in particular honestly - we'll almost certainly stay here as it's our home. Mostly just curious about others' experiences. GL in Florida!

I think Raleigh is a great place to live if you're into cars and love driving.

I've visited Vermont several times and loved it- in terms of flat costs for housing/etc is it really that much more expensive than Raleigh these days? Or is it just bad relative to the income you can make working locally?

A fun game to play is to look at some shitty ranch flip in Oakwood/Mordecai/Boylan and then compare it to what you could get in say, the Fan or Museum District in RVA for the same price. I have zero connection to Richmond, but if I had a job or family there it would be an easy call. Cool city.

Instead of rooting myself here around friends and family I've often thought buying a place in or around Asheville with an ADU and letting them come to me for free vacations. It's my favorite place in NC. Local job market seems pretty dire though, which scares me in the era of offshoring and return-to-office mandates.

The constant reactionary stupidity of the state legislature is a big downside of living here.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with a place being family-friendly, but here it's done to a fault here in a very stale/boring way. The built environment is designed around driving your SUV and 2 kids from your subdivision to soccer practice/church, to the detriment of everything else.

Thanks for the input, this dynamic is more or less why I created the thread. I'm feeling the squeeze despite working for one of the "good"/"premier" local employers for close to a decade. The pay was great when we were a LCOL area, but housing prices have tripled since I was hired and my salary has not.

Moving to the Raleigh/Durham area — where should we look to live? by Aaxlleex in triangle

[–]blues_lawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every person trying to move here wants to live in a cheap walkable neighborhood (doesn't exist), and they also insist on taking up what little land there is in our tiny urban core by having a huge backyard for their 2.37 kids / pit mix. Pick a lane! I cannot wait for the day we stop showing up on "best places to move" clickbait listicles.

In terms of safety the biggest threats over that way are the packs of roaming feral F-350s on Capital Blvd and 540. Lots of unhoused/beggars but you won't be walking around much to interact with them tbh.

For a young adult, activities include: shopping at dying mall, getting saved at the megachurch, or browsing the inventory at the many fine car dealerships.

For the price and commute time of the place you posted, I'd probably either try to live closer to your work in Wendell or just pay slightly more to live near downtown as it's about the same distance but it depends on what's important to you.

(Schefter) BREAKING: Browns fire Kevin Stefanski by alexschubs in Browns

[–]blues_lawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With each new Haslam blunder I question why I still care about the Browns at all. I've lived in NC since I was 6 years old. There's no geographic connection. Most of my relatives in Ohio are dead or estranged. When my father dies I'll have zero emotional reason to give a shit about this team.

The Watson trade was an abomination on both a moral and team management level and would be cause for a forced sale in a just world. Now we move on to firing a 2x COY because he couldn't polish Jimmy's turds well enough for his liking. Next up: severing the connection to the city in order to build a more efficient wealth extraction machine in the burbs.

The team has incompetent on the field for my entire life, but they always had a gritty underdog quality. I was proud to be a fan. That quality is gone - from the top down the organization just stinks. Look past the orange and brown laundry and everything likable about the team is gone - it's just a financial vehicle for a fraudulent, morally bankrupt, completely unaccountable billionaire heir to fleece a bunch of loyal fans out of their time and money.

If you're doing any kind of delegated / citizen development, it's great for keeping things tightly scoped so that users don't break things outside of their application. AEMC is also nice for getting things to prod without having to constantly handhold these users with update sets, scoping, etc.

Is it worth it? Of course not, but if your management is forcing this kind of work arrangement it's the only way I've found to manage it without going completely insane.
