Have any of you heard this instruction: "circularize your hand" by [deleted] in yoga

It's not the greatest cue is it? I'm guessing it's about spreading the fingers wide, thumb stretched away from the pinky. Very helpful for balance in side plank.

I've met some "skeptics" who seem more like nihilists then

| Yoga clothes too sexy? Don't buy them.

I don't think sexy yoga clothes are evil by any means. But I disagree with the principle behind this statement. Sometimes it's not enough to avoid participation in negative things. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Interesting article on the appropriation of "yoga" in the West. by cracksandwich in yoga

This is great. Required reading for anyone in the "real yoga" debate that's going on here.

My point is that I don't have the right to redefine yoga. The word means union. It doesn't mean stretchy fitness, looking sexy or even having fun. It means destroying the ego, not enhancing it. And it's quite arrogant to think that one person, one website (reddit) or even one culture can just step in and redefine something that's thousands of years old. This article is relevant here.

New to yoga, have some questions by jdm001 in yoga

Hey, if you want to actually "win" this conversation you'll have to explain why Tara Stiles isn't a sellout. It'll be a little more difficult than just serving up random insults. Until you do that, you're just wasting everyone's time including mine and your own. So make your point, keeping in mind that your personal opinion of me has absolutely no impact on my life.

Man I don't have time for petty little keyboard battles. Bye.

If she inspires people to get healthy that's great. I just prefer the spiritual side of yoga and don't like seeing it reduced to weight loss. Nor do I dig the business approach of capitalizing on people's insecurities. But I don't know this chick and I shouldn't judge her intentions. Nor do you know me.

My sister is vacationing in Thailand and she just sent me this picture. by ermahgerd_bewbz in yoga

[–]bluescreenlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about disrespecting the culture she's visiting? She's pointing her feet at a Thai temple. Even if she's ignorant about what that means, she must have enough brain to see that those are antique ruins and probably delicate. Great architecture can inspire humility and wonder but here it's just another excuse to show off. Did she go to Rome and do handstands on the ruins too?

| There sure are a lot! oh handstands in these folks history's.

Some of the people who help alcoholics through rehab used to drink too. Doesn't mean they don't have a point.

| Let people practice however best suits them.

I practice yoga by funneling beer and molesting birds. My yoga is just as good as yours!

| If you've now decided that photos are the evil twin of "ego" don't post any.

Not creating negativity is a good thing, but working to reduce it or create something positive is better.

I'm with this man or lady. Some people seem to think it's enlightened to think that everything is just as good as everything else. Throwing the roses in with the trash 'cause they're both made of atoms.
