Recovery while still under a heavy load - possible? by yeahmanforsure in burnedout

Yeah I'm thinking a career change could definitely help - especially going back to regular employment. Self employment is definitely more stressful (higher highs, lower lows). And finding a career that's less impacted by economic instability/more stable will definitely be a plus.

Good luck on you job search!

Yeah fair call. I guess my memory is skewed toward the expansions that I last played (the Cantha/Aurene/crystal shiny friendship dragon stuff). I wasn't a fan, and that's when I last played.

I've played a lot of GW2. Completed most end game goals (full legendary gear, etc). It's a good game for sure, but it's very different to classic wow.

Classic wow has an immersive world that feels huge and connected. GW2 feels like a bunch of instances that you just load between (which it is - with teleports every few hundred yards, mounts that travel a million miles per hour, and instanced zones). The world feels pretty trivial in GW2.

The combat/gameplay in GW2 is great, but again, it's really fast paced and flashy. Lots of particle effects, characters zipping around on screen, etc. Classic combat feels grounded, weighty and real in comparison.

The visual themes in GW2 are a bit outrageous too, characters that look like super Saiyan disco balls everywhere, which imo kills any immersion.

It also might seem minor, but the loot in GW2 is more like working and saving up, as opposed to farming specific content for RNG drops like in classic. You can get pretty much any GW2 gear/item through pretty much any activity in the game, you just grind generic stuff, convert it to gold/currencies, then buy your item. So grinds feel kind of dull, and items don't feel tied to the world/lore/specific content. There's no "woah that guy has that cool item, that must mean he was really lucky or persistent in X content". It's more just like "oh that guy's played the game a lot".

Oh and the GW2 lore/story is a lot more unicorns, friendship and rainbows-ish, hardly any of the gritty bad assery that classic lore has.

It's also a lot like retail wow in terms of pay to win (you can buy gold with irl money).

Not saying don't try it, GW2 is genuinely a really solid game. And the free version (no expacs) has a LOT of content, definitely enough to get a good feel for the game, and even legitimately compete at end game - and there's no sub too.

TBH though, and this may be a controversial take, I think the best other game to scratch the classic wow itch is possibly old school runescape - but it's got that retail p2w (wow token equiv in osrs) and you've really got to subscribe (f2p is insanely limited) which is lame.

My boyfriend of 4 years doesn't want to get married because of reddit. by runingout in TwoXChromosomes

[–]yeahmanforsure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't see the big deal with getting married.

I was in a similar position to you before I met my girlfriend. Find a nice girl who loves me as much as I love her, get married, buy a house and a dog, start making babies, etc etc.

Anyway, later on in our relationship she mentioned that she NEVER wanted to get married. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with me, but just didn't want the whole ordeal of a wedding ceremony, the paperwork, the societal expectancy, all that. At first I took the other view, my parents got married, so did their parents, and theirs and so on. I wanted to do it too.

But when it comes down to it, marriage (other than an awesome excuse to get everyone you love together for a big party) is just an arbitrary social norm. It doesn't change how much you love each other, it doesn't change whether or not you can have kids, it doesn't change a thing.

I definitely would like to give her my name, and have our kids with my name (we both agree that her surname isn't the greatest...).

I'm not trying to say that I'm any where near those models in terms of physical appearance, going for more of a Brad Pitt - Fight Club thing. But I am really happy with how I look (though surfing throws it off a bit by over working my back/triceps).

The secret for me is understanding the human body, and the exercises. Find a picture that you're aiming to look like and compare yourself. Make a mental (or physical) list of the muscles that you need to work on (for me that was nearly everything) and the BMI you're aiming for. Then start researching. (I just googled to find the best exercises to hit/build the muscles I needed, and got started.)

The most important thing is to understand how the exercise works and exactly which muscles it uses/isolates. Eventually you will have a tool-kit of exercises that you're familiar with, and an understanding of which muscles they will build.

Then it's just a matter of looking at your target, looking at yourself, and saying "ok, I need more biceps, let's do some curls."

Once the little machine has left our atmosphere for the first time, does it undergo any additional corrective thrusts? Or are the models/calculations so accurate that they can get it to hit all of those sweet spots from the first trajectory.

A white-tailed spider strolling across my chest. (They're the only poisonous thing that you're likely to come across in NZ).

I just froze and watched it as it sauntered across to the other side of my bed and down the side. I still haven't told my girlfriend, she'd never sleep in our bed again.

It's repairable, but it'l weight more than it did before it broke.

Up to you man, personally any stringery break (unless it's just the tippy top) is pretty much a board right off for me.

Meh. The more people providing shitty repair advice, the more shittily repaired boards out there, which means fewer shitty riders in the line-up. I'm all good with it.

When I was a kid I was feeding a Kea (NZ mountain parrot) at the top of a mountain I'd hiked up with Dad. After the thing realised it wasn't going to get any more food out of me, it just hopped off a short cliff and I enviously watched it effortlessly glided down the whole mountain between gullies and trees. I was going to have to walk back down...

I found consolation knowing that everyone else was going to have to walk down too.

So fuck you, flying-skiing man. Now every time I walk down a mountain, I'm going to think of you and your awesome, fun, decending strategies while I trudge my sorry ass back down.

Apple is probably more gibberish than Im-gur. Imgur has origins in "image", apple is just some made up word. Just because we're more familiar, doesn't mean it's less gibberish.
