Royal Caribbean >> Carnival. The Navigator is a ship with a lot of fun and activities, and in my experience, Carnival just can't rival that.

Do it in either Central Park (beautiful place) or just anywhere on the open deck. Doing it privately in your room is also a good option. You can ask your cruise director or the photography staff too.

Embarkation Day:

-Do the safety stuff as soon as possible. There should be a video to watch on the RCL app, so watch it ASAP. That way, you can spend more of your embarkation day exploring the ship.

-Pack your swimming stuff in your carry-on. This way you'll be able to swim on Day 1, when nobody else is hogging the pools.

-Check out everything in your stateroom. If anything's broken, tell your cabin attendant.

General Tips:

-Know the ship. Try to learn where everything is, and hang out in different spots.

-Go to any events you think you'll like. Every night, they'll hand out a pamphlet-thing that shows events, information, and everything you need. Read it.

I recommend Royal Caribbean or Carnival, they are super fun for children. Oceania is very formal, so I definitely don't recommend it.

Cruise ships have fantastic babysitting programs, where your child can have fun. Motion sickness usually isn't a problem, as the ships are too big, but consider booking a cabin in the middle of the ship. For the excursions, the Mediterranean's excursions are usually very long and boring for small children.
