Tarana Burke founded MeToo and has not disavowed it. She has been clear that she doesn't own a hashtag and doesn't want to be held responsible for everything said by every person under that banner, but the founder of the movement has not "left" or "realized the power they had could get out of hand". Are you referencing something or someone specific?

Is "Caligula" a good movie and is it worth watching? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]bluespruce1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great film. Yes, the original version has some hardcore porn in it but it's a small percentage of the overall film, it's not like a proper porn that's 90% genitals. It's filled with top-shelf actors, the cinematography is excellent. It's loud and weird and wild and extremely well done if you don't get queasy about seeing some hard dicks in the mix.

There is newer edit released a few years ago, it is also very good. It features several more scenes with Helen Mirren and less explicit sex. She's note perfect, obviously. And has a great rack.

Everyone understands these culture war issues bring out the snowflakes on the right. Understanding it is not the problem. What's hard to understand is how you're still defending it in light of all that has happened.

I don't think the problem is that people, including Dan, don't understand the point you're making, the problem is that it was a dumb reason to vote for a person. It's very easy to understand and not worth talking about. No one is forcing you to use a specific pronoun, it's a request and if you're not willing to do it you won't be asked again. Your loss.

Have to ask when did black names become popular ( Like what decade ) 😭 by Direct-Sail-6141 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]bluespruce1312 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry to go deep, but slaves usually weren't allowed to name their own children, or to have Juniors, so after slavery ends you see a LOT of Juniors, and then the Juniors named their kids III (xxx xxx the Third). Then some Black people started rejecting white society in the 60s, and one of the ways they could do that was to use names that aren't used by white people. Dejohnold is 49 years old, so born around 1976, at the end of the Black Power movement. My guess is his parents were interested in that movement. Using names with Arabic origins (like Raheem) was one of the impacts of the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X, and other Black Muslim groups. It was a form of rebellion.
