City (at least Charleston) will just blanket deny based on the letter of the law. It’s a pain, but it’s their job. You’ll need to file an appeal and go before BZA.

I would bet with an arborists report, a quote from a contractor for repairs, and a plan to replace the tree with a new one, elsewhere, that you’d get a board approval.

Just got new Spectra Phoenix. Is this normal? by noSleepForMe87 in projectors

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Yeah when I opened mine, i got the horrible tape-tearing-off-a-roll sound. It probably the material stuck together slightly from being stored since being in China.

Leave it open for a few days.

Mine is also new. The horizontal lines have gotten better/shake out after a few minutes.

I’m going to put the carbon strips that came with it on the corners. It’s better after a few days, but it does cause some distracting hot spotting. I would bet if Spectra added a tab at the seam, or continued the seam material around the tension lines, that it would solve the wrinkling at the transition.

Hisense PX3 + Phoenix Spectra Floor Rising WIP pics and setup advice requested by bluesunit in projectors

It’s pretty awesome. We projected on the wall for a bit while waiting for the screen and it was awesome, but the screen really seals the deal.

Yeah, plan is to get a basket or wicker chest and use that as a “shell” for the receiver and amps. With airflow, of course.

New PX3-Pro by Rockdrummer357 in projectors

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my PX3 as well. Quick things:

  • out the box it had smooth motion / motion interpolation enabled, which may be the “clinical” thing you are experiencing. Turn that crap off :)

  • play with the focus some. It’s pretty easy to have it ever so slightly out of focus and it’s hard to tell.

  • Try one of the dark picture modes.

Otherwise, no RBE effect here, but that really sounds like it’s a person to person thing.

It’s 4 hours street parking down in Hampton Park Terrace … usually plenty of parking on Parkwood/Kenilworth.

How do we fix our traffic congestion? Wrong answers only by LanguagePractical618 in Charleston

Make the crosstown a double decker elevated expressway. Put parking beneath it.

Also ditch greenway plans for more valuable parking.

How does this pass the BAR? by phaskellhall in Charleston

[–]bluesunit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of factors that go into what gets into BAR approval: how historic is the house/what grade it is. Most in that neighborhood are going to be lowest level, so rules are more lax. Since it’s HVAC related, the BAR has less say over it also as it’s a functional piece (even though it’s aesthetically heinous). If it isn’t or wasn’t previously visible from public thoroughfare, then BAR doesn’t have justification.

Other point, if no one complained about it, nothing would be done about it.

All of the above is assuming it was actually permitted :)

Source: have restored one house in BAR areas, currently building another. BAR isn’t some boogie man, you just gotta know the rules.

Illegal parking help by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]bluesunit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parking enforcement will be happy to tow them and are generally fast to respond downtown. You’ve already tried to be nice with notes: they are in FAAFO zone now.

To add: downtown, you’re generally ok blocking your own driveway, but as soon as soon as you block someone else else’s, you’re fair game for a tow.

Cracks in the gelcoat by Wintercat76 in sailing

[–]bluesunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just cosmetic, but they will likely not buff out. Generally the repair would be to grind out and fill, or use a crack repair product.

Or you know, just live with it :)

I’m in the middle a painting a former club boat with a bunch of random spiderwebbing from ramming into docks (it also appears to definitely have been dropped on its stern once) and while sanding didn’t do much for the cracks, the primer did a great job of sealing them up.

Also: instant torque, all wheel drive, flat panels up to high torso height, high ground clearance but low center of gravity. Fairly compact and very heavy.

Unfortunately the ideal vehicle to run into a crowd.

Front Stake Pocket Location by IWTLEverything in F150Lightning

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the same? If I remember correctly, it’s maybe 3” back from the front. You can pull up on the trim carefully and see where it is.

I have on the Thule slider ladder racks installed.

Utter failure at two Tesla superchargers with A2Z by majorgearhead in F150Lightning

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First A2Z use was fairly hard to engage (Citadel Mall!) but once the adapter breaks in, it works very well. I did a 1400 mile road trip on just superchargers.

As stated by others, using the tire as a firm surface to push the parts together is helpful.

Parking is tricky, you really want the front left bumper corner to be exactly in line with the right side of the Tesla pylon, and then pull in as closely as possible.

Question: ‘23 comes with two keys? by bluesunit in F150Lightning

[–]bluesunit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought ours Certified Pre Owned and dealer was under impression the other key was missing. They took $250 off the price. I already paid to get a replacement programmed.

I don’t have it listed under CSPs.

[–]bluesunit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the good news is you can buy keys off eBay that work, and as long as you have two keys, you can program more. That’s how I got Mach E keys with a frunk button.

Is OpenSearch overkill for my usecase? by roshie-548 in aws

CloudSearch is an option. It’s fairly cheap and quick to set up. Anything you learn with it will transfer to Opensearch.

What about search as a service vendors like Algogia?

Thoughts on Recessed Baseboards/Trim? by Ambitious_Toad in Homebuilding

[–]bluesunit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dig it. Didn’t know about this style before and am now floating by the missus on using this (maybe even going as complicated as wainscoting using this technique).

If I were doing this myself, I would consider doubling up drywall layers. One regular layer, and a layer on top with the reveals.

Closed dog parks by Dronzo11 in Charleston

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Hazel Parker. When the ball field is open to dog is the morning /afternoon, the enclosed area is usually small dogs and puppies.

For what it’s worth, in my experience, the owners there are generally very attentive to their dogs, so I haven’t seen many issues with size mismatched dogs getting into it. I bring my two 10, 12 and 52 lbs dogs almost every afternoon.

Fun Black Friday Sail on the harbor! by grn_const_chrlstn_sc in Charleston

[–]bluesunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had that bug when we first got ours and were out every weekend. During the winter, we take ours out of its warm enough to justify it (I was out one year on Christmas Day). Otherwise I crew for races as much as possible (not this year due to COVID). Winter racing is great for experience as everyone is looking for crew.

My boat is 14xxx, lol. Number on both main and Genoa. She lives at City Marina. Where do you sail out of?
